Analysis of L705.2 / L706.2

SUMMARY OF SNP (June, 2012)

Classification of SNP: Small branch where around 50 submissions should test positive. With the recent testing of FTDNA submission 219571, L706.2 has been changed to be a son of L513 and L705.2 is now a son of L706.2. However, L705.2 continues to test positive for many testing candidates below 219571 which suggests that this could be a testing error (there is the only submission to test for positive for L706.2 and negative for L705.2).

Estimated Breadth of SNP (over 70 % match): 53 submissions.

Scope of Testing within Fingerprint: Above average - Fourteen tested positive and two tested negative out of 58 possible testing candidates (over 70 % match of L706.2 fingerprint).

Dominant Surnames (positive): Adams (1), Banks (1), Barrett (2), Bergeron (1), Brown (1), Edwards (1), Jones (1), Lewis (1), Morris (1), Munnerlyn (1), Philips (1), Pitts (1), Sunesson and Walsh (1).

Year that SNPs were discovered: January, 2012.

Source of SNP: FTDNA WTY - Unknown source.

Number of Positive Tests: Fourteen known.

Number of Negative Broad Tests: 45 outside of the 70 % match of fingerprint..

Number of Negative Tests within Fingerprint (over 70 % match): Only two.

Possible Untested Candidates (over 70 % match): Around 58.

Pending Tests (within Fingerprint): None known.

TRENDS OF TESTING CANDIDATES

The curve associated with the testing candidates appears to be typical for L21 SNPs where the number of testing candidates declines down to 70 % matches, remains low between 50 and 70 % and then sees a sharp rise as non-L706.2 submissions dominate the under 50 % matches. However, there are unusually high genetic distances on many lower fingerprint matches imply possible mixture of testing results (many high genetic distant matches should test negative). Additionally, and only six markers are part of the L706.2 fingerprint which are less than desired for accurate prediction.

ISOGG Status - Prove relationship of L706.2 to other L513 SNPs

Requirements for proving L706.2's position on the ISOGG haplotree have been met and the new genetic distance requirement of 10 % has been met. L706.2 has already been added to the ISOGG haplotree. Below is a summary of SNPs tested required for ISOGG qualification:

DNA FINGERPRINTS

L21 Off Modal Mutations:

Markers 1 to 37: 19 >= 15, YCAIIa <= 18 and 570 >= 18 (3 mutations).

Markers 38 to 67: 406S1 >= 11, 444 >= 13 and 617 >= 13 (3 mutations).

TESTING RECOMMENDATIONS

Note: There are least 44 good testing candidates that have not been tested. For a detailed list of good testing candidates, see the spreadsheet of testing candidates which can be found in the L706.2 link in the DNA Results pull down menu. Here are the priorities for testing:

1) Only two submissions have been tested for L706.2. Additional lower fingerprint matches (5 of 6 matches) that have already tested for L705.2 positive should also test for L706.2 to ensure that L705.2 is truly a son of L706.2 as shown by only one submission (while lower fingerprint matches continue to test L705.2 positive).

2) Since there was one L705.2 negative test with 6 of 6 matches, additional testing of both L705.2 and L706.2 is recommended except for the Barrett surname cluster which should consistently test the same. Higher priority candidates with 6 of 6 matches are those with the highest genetic distance: 233741 (James), 70694 (Jenkins), 4283 (Rice), 33935 (Owen), 46480 (Powell) and 231066 (Rogers).

3) Since one 5 of 6 match has tested negative for both L705.2 and L706.2, it is highly recommended that higher genetic distance matches with 5 of 6 matches should test for L706.2: 210686 (Price), 80974 (Jenkins), 267067 (unknown surname) and 70836 (Blackwell).

4) Testing of 4 of 6 matches should be considered speculative but is still recommended in determining the true scope of L706.2. Priority should be testing low genetic distance 4 0f 6 matches which will have a better chance of testing positive: 9576 (unknown surname), 167866 (Davis) and 112609 (White).

5) There are a substantial number of 37 marker submissions that match the L706.2 fingerprint values. It is highly recommended that these submission should be upgraded to 67 markers and then tested for L706.2. It is not recommended to test 37 marker submissions for L706.2 unless they are first upgraded to 67 markers to verify that these submissions match more than just half of the known L706.2 fingerprint marker values. Also, since only six markers are included in the L706.2 fingerprint, upgrades to 111 markers is also recommended where five additional L706.2 have been discovered.
