SUMMARY OF SNP (AUGUST, 2012)
Classification of SNP: Near private.
Estimated Breadth of SNP: Around 10 submissions.
Scope of Testing within Fingerprint: Above average - Six tested out of eleven possible candidates (over 70 % match of the L583 fingerprint).
Dominant Surnames (positive): Burde (1), Levin (1) and Yurzditsky (1). All list place of origin as Belarus or Russia.
Year that SNPs were discovered: May, 2011.
Source of SNP: FTDNA - WTY - FTDNA ID 193834 and Y-Search 9HPG7.
Number of Positive Tests: Three known.
Number of Negative Broad Tests (below 50 % matches): Only 42.
Number of Negative Tests within Fingerprint: Three negative (implies very narrow scope Y-SNP and overlap of positive and negative test results).
Possible Candidates (70 % match): Around ten.
Pending Tests (within Fingerprint): None known.
ANALYSIS OF FINGERPRINT MARKERS
Key markers are 388 <= 11 and 590 >= 9 since very few submissions below 70 % matches have these marker values. These marker values represent the best testing criteria fof testing candidates in the the transitional area (between 50 % and 70 % matches).
Almost all fingerprint marker are pre-L583 in origin: 439 <= 11, 392 >= 14, 459b <= 9, 449 <= 29, 464c <= 15, 464d <= 16, 456 <= 15, 570 >= 18, 442 <= 11 and 487 >= 14. These marker values are found extensively in the transitional area of the fingerprint (between 50 % and 70 % matches).
Post-583 mutations include 444 <= 12 and 464d >= 17. 464d >= 17 is part of the L583 fingerprint while 444 <= 12 is not part of the L583 fingerprint. Post-L583 mutations are not reliable predictors of testing positive. 444 <= 12 appears promissing but submission 169961 did not test positive as other 444 <= 12 submissions did.
Unfortunately, it does not seem possible to predict L583 positive above 70 % fingerprint matches. Almost all positive tests for L583 will probably be above 70 % matches, but testing above 70 % will produce both positive and negative test results. Perhaps key fingerprint markers can be found with a 111 marker fingerprint. All submissions above 70 % matches need to be extensively tested.
TRENDS OF TESTING CANDIDATES
Note that the number of known testing candidates appears to be fairly typical for L21 SNPs where the number of testing candidates declines down to 70 % matches and then sees a sharp rise as non-L583 submissions dominate the under 50 % matches. This trend suggests a very small overlap of L583 submissions with non-L583 submissions at lower fingerprint matches. L583 will probably test positive down to 70 % matches, have almost exclusively negative test results at lower fingerprint matches and then only test negative for below 50 % matches. However, the transitional fingerprint matches (between 50 % and 70 % matches) have not been well tested to date.

ISOGG Status - Prove genetic and surname diversity of L583
L583 does not currently satisfy the 15 % genetic diversity requirement but does satisfy the surname diversity requirement for inclusion on the ISOGG haplotree. Two submissions of L583 must have at least a genetic distance of 10 (15 % x 67 markers = 10). Additional testing of submissions could eventually satisfy the 15 % diversity rule and could eventually qualify for the ISOGG haplotree (depending on the degree of negative test results discovered).
