Analysis of L362 SNP

SUMMARY OF SNP (March, 2013)

L362 is the son of P314.2 and descends from the DF21 major branch. Predicted Breadth of SNP (speculative estimate of positive submissions) = 14 = 2 x 95 % (13 of 13) + 8 x 90 % (12 of 13) + 15 x 80 % (11 of 13) + 9 x 10 % (10 of 13). Current testing implies htat L362 is a more narrower breadth than most L21 Y-SNPs which usually test positive down to 70 % matches of the fingerprints. However, with further testing, L362 could test positive at lower matches.

Note that the number of known testing candidates remains rather flat as the fingerprint match decreases. This is not typical for most Y-SNPs. This flat trend suggests substantial overlap of L362 with non-L362 submissions at higher fingerprint matches. Additionally, most SNPs test positive down to 70 % matches but L362 only tests positive down to 83 % matches and all eight tests between 50 % and 83 % have tested negative to date. This indicates that L743 could be much narrower in scope than most SNPs. Additionally, due to the lack of an obvious decrease in testing candidates as the fingerprint decreases suggests that most lower fingerprint will probably test negative but some lower fingerprint matches should also test positive.

ISOGG Status - Prove genetic and surname diversity of L362

L362 satisfies the genetic diversity requirement and the surname diversity requirement for inclusion on the ISOGG haplotree. Two submissions of L362 must have at least a genetic distance of 10 (15 % x 67 markers = 10). Note: L362 has already qualified for the ISOGG haplotree.

PROPOSED PHYLOGENETIC TREE

Nigel McCarthy has authored what I consider to be one the better phylogenetic trees that I have seen. This phylogenetic tree does not use the typical phylogenetic software programs which are generally not very accurate. Since there will always be hidden backwards and parallel mutations, any chart of this nature will have minor errors and the chart will change over time as more testing results becomes avaialable, For more information concerning this chart contact Nigel McCarthy via the McCarthy surname project:
