SANTELMAN(N) FAMILY HISTORY

Very little is known about the wife of the author’s maternal lines.  Eleanor (Santelman) Thede, the author’s mother-in-law was the first Santelman(n) family member that was born in America and has only two children and two grandchildren.  Adding to this, Eleanor Santelman was the only child of the immigrant, Friedrich Santelmann.  Friedrich Santelmann was the only known Santelmann family member to immigrate to America.  Therefore, the entire American Santelmann line consists of only five members.  Eleanor (Santelman) Thede and her family visited German relatives in the 1950’s and Philip Schmidt visited Eleanor (Santelman) Thede in Michigan in the mid 1970’s.

HANS-HEINRICH SANTELMANN (1) is the oldest known Santelmann ancestor of the authors.  Hans-Heinrich was born on January 1, 1810 in Germany.  Hans-Heinrich Santelmann married Marie Winter and they were the parents of one son:

   Friedrich Wilhelm Santelmann (2), b. September 21, 1833, Germany

Hans-Heinrich Santelmann died on August 23, 1898 in Germany.

FRIEDRICH WILHELM SANTELMANN (2) is the son of Hans-Heinrich Santelmann and Marie (Winter) Santelmann.  Friedrich was born on September 21, 1833 in Germany.  On November 25, 1860, Friedrich Santelmann married Luise Dorothea Juliane Mohwinkel (born July 20, 1840 in Germany).  Friedrich and Luise Santelmann were the parents of eight children:

   Elise Dorethee Santelmann, b. April 13, 1870, Germany
   Heinrich Friedrich Santelmann (2.3), b. January 18, 1871, Germany

   Helene Santelmann, b. December 31, 1874, Germany
   Auguste Wilhelmine Santelmann (2.7), b. December 30, 1875, Germany
   Heinrich Friedrich Carl Santelmann (2.8), b. March 24, 1880, Germany

Friedrich Wilhelm Santelmann died on June 4, 1893 and Luise (Mohwinkel) Santelmann died on October 20, 1913.  Elise Santelmann died on November 24, 1956.  Adolph Santelmann was a postal employee in Köln (Cologne), Germany.  Helene Santelmann married August Heitmann.

HEINRICH FRIEDRICH SANTELMANN (2.3) is the son of Friedrich Wilhelm Santelmann and Luise Dorothea Juliane (Mohwinkel) Santelmann.  Heinrich was born on January 18, 1871 in Germany.  Heinrich Santelmann was the father of three children:

   Heinrich Santelmann
   Elisabeth Santelmann (2.3.3), b. May 16, 1891, Germany

Heinrich F. Santelmann died on December 8, 1941.  Else Santelmann married Otto Melin and they have one child:  -  Ingrid Melin.  Heinrich Santelmann and his wife, Marie Santelmann, have four children:  -  Heinz Santelmann,  -  Helmut Santelmann,  -  Friedel Santelmann,  -  Irmgard Santelmann.

ELISABETH SANTELMANN (2.3.3) is the daughter of Heinrich Friedrich Santelmann.  Elisabeth was born on May 16, 1891 in Germany.  Elisabeth Santelmann married Hermann Schmidt (born May 11, 1891) and they were the parents of three children:

   Hans Hermann Schmidt, b. June 13, 1916, Germany
   Günter Schmidt, b. April 28, 1924, Germany
   Phillipp Hartmuth Schmidt, b. February 24, 1938, Germany

Hermann Schmidt died on May 26, 1942 and Elisabeth (Santelmann) Schmidt died on March 12, 1988.  Hans Schmidt was killed with the sinking of the Cruiser Bismark.  Günter Schmidt married Winnifred Schmalstieg but they were later divorced.  Günter Schmidt and his second wife had one child:  -  Joe-Henning Schmidt.

Phillip Schmidt married Evelin Litta (born December 19, 1938) and they had two children:  -  Silke Schmidt, b. January 13, 1962, Germany,   -  Imke-Susanne Schmidt, b. March 2, 1967, Germany.  Phillip Schmidt married a second time to Ute Kröpelin (born June 11, 1952, Germany).  In 1990, Phillip Schmidt was living in Scharbeutz, Germany.  Phillip worked for NATO in Europe.  Phillip Schmidt died on June 26, 1991 and was buried in the Baltic Sea.  Silke Schmidt married Wicher Van Dalen and they have two daughters.  In 1991, Wicher and Silke Van Dalen were living in Heerenveen, Netherlands.

MARIE AUGUSTE SANTELMANN (2.5) is the daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm Santelmann and Luise Dorothea Juliane (Mohwinkel) Santelmann.  Marie was born on March 22, 1873 in Germany.  Marie Santelmann was the mother of one son:

   Otto Santelmann, b. January 12, 1901, Germany

Marie Santelmann died on April 25, 1949.  Otto was the illegitimate son of Marie Santelmann.  Otto Santlemann was the father of two children:  -  Gustav Albert Santelmann, b. March 23, 1924, Germany,  -  Erich Santelmann, b. 1928, Germany.  Otto Santelmann was bügermeister (mayor) of Katensen, Germany.  Otto Santelmann died on March 4, 1986.  Erich Santelmann died in 1973.

AUGUSTE WILHEMINE SANTELMANN (2.7) is the daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm Santelmann and Luise Dorothea Juliane (Mohwinkel) Santelmann.  Auguste was born on December 30, 1875 in Germany.  On December 4, 1900, Auguste Santelmann married August Frederick Voges (born February 3, 1874 in Germany).  August and Auguste Voges were the parents of six children:

   Otto Voges, b. 1902, Germany
   Lene Voges, b. 1903, Germany
   Else Voges, b. 1906, Germany
   Emmy Voges, b. March 2, 1908, Germany
   Heinrich Voges, b. 1910
   Albert Voges, b. 1912

Auguste (Santelmann) Voges died in October of 1942.  Otto Voges died in 1932.  Else Voges died in 1916.  Emmy Voges married a Mr. Meyer.  Heinrich Voges died in 1943.

HEINRICH FRIEDRICH CARL SANTELMANN (2.8) is the son of Friedrich Wilhelm Santelmann and Luise Dorothea Juliane (Mohwinkel) Santelmann.  Heinrich was born on March 24, 1880 in Germany.  Heinrich Santelmann is the father of one child:

   Karl Santelmann, b. June 30, 1909, Germany

Heinrich Santelmann died on December 22, 1945.  Karl Santelmann was the father of two children:  -  Karl-Rolf Santelmann, b. November 17, 1938, Germany,  -  Werner Santelmann, b. September 6, 1952, Germany.  Karl Santelmann died on April 15, 1981.

HANS HEINRICH WILHELM SANTELMANN (3) is the son of Friedrich Wilhelm Santelmann and Luise Dorothea Juliane (Mohwinkel) Santelmann.  Hans was born on June 5, 1857 in Germany.  Hans Santelmann married Caroline Müller and they were the parents of five children:

   Ernst August Willy Santelmann (3.2), b. July 1, 1891, Germany
   Karl Friedrich Albert Santelmann (3.3), b. July 25, 1897, Germany

   Freida Santelmann (3.5), b. August 2, 1904, Germany

Hans Santelmann died on February 24, 1915.

HEINRICH ADOLPH FRIEDERICH SANTELMANN (3.1) is the son of Hans Heinrich Wilhelm Santelmann and Caroline (Müller) Santelmann.  Heinrich was born on April 10, 1887 in Germany.  Heinrich Santelmann was the father of two children:

   Helene Santelmann, b. April 6, 1909, Germany
   Emmy Santelmann, b. December 19, 1919, Germany

Heinrich Santelmann had a military career and lived in Immensen, Hannover, Germany.  Heinrich Santelmann died on January 1, 1929.  Helene Santelmann married a Mr. Schlimme.  Emmy Santelmann married a Mr. Lüders and they had two children:  -  Haus-Heinrich Lüders, b. September 9, 1946, Germany,  -  Gerhard Lüders, b. September 26, 1947, Germany.  Emmy (Santelmann) Lüders died on October 6, 1986.  Haus-Heinrich Lüders has two children:  -  Angela Lüders, b. 1972, Germany,  -  Mathias Lüders, b. 1976, Germany.  Gerhard Lüders has three children:  -  Christoph Lüders, b. 1972, Germany,  -  Phillip Lüders, b. 1978, Germany,  -  Caroline Lüders, b. 1980, Germany.

ERNST AUGUST WILLY SANTELMANN (3.2) is the son of Hans Heinrich Wilhelm Santelmann and Caroline (Müller) Santelmann.  Ernst was born on July 1, 1891 in Germany.  Ernst Santelmann was the father of one daughter:

   Carla Santelmann, b. July 23, 1921, Germany

Ernst Santelmann lived in Eddesse, Hannover, Germany.  Ernst Santelmann died on January 1, 1929.  Carla Santelmann married a Mr. Nath and they have three children:  -  Brigitte Nath, b. March 25, 1948, Germany,  -  Burger Nath, b. January 30, 1952, Germany,  -  Cornelia Nath, b. June 14, 1954, Germany.  Brigitte Nath died as a small child on October 17, 1953.

KARL FRIEDRICH ALBERT SANTELMANN (3.3) is the son of Hans Heinrich Wilhelm Santelmann and Caroline (Müller) Santelmann.  Karl was born on July 25, 1897 in Germany.  Karl Santelmann was the father of one son:

   Walter Santelmann, b. June 21, 1935, Germany

Karl Santelmann owned a store and lived in Uetze, Hannover, Germany.  Karl Santelmann died on January 16, 1970.  Walter Santelmann is the father of one child:  -  Ulrich Santelmann, b. June 4, 1968, Germany.  Walter Santelmann is an executive of a computer center in Hannover, Germany.  His firm is a subcontractor of the automotive industry.  As of 1991, Walter Santelmann was living in Uetze, Germany.  Ulrich is a student at the University of Hannover in Hannover, Germany.

FREIDA SANTELMANN (3.5) is the daughter of Hans Heinrich Wilhelm Santelmann and Caroline (Müller) Santelmann.  Freida was born on August 2, 1904 in Germany.  Frieda Santelmann married a Mr. Meyer and they were the parents of one son:

   Fritz Meyer, b. April 22, 1926, Germany

Frieda (Santelmann) Meyer lived in Uetze, Hannover, Germany.  Frieda (Santelmann) Meyer died on July 3, 1947.  Fritz Meyer had two children:  -  Jürgen Meyer, b. February 21, 1950, Germany,  -  Siegrid Meyer, b. May 17, 1955, Germany.  Fritz Meyer died on March 24, 1979.

FREDERICK “FRITZ” WILHELM OTTO SANTELMAN(N) (4) is the son of Hans Heinrich Wilhelm Santelmann and Caroline (Müller) Santelmann.  Frederick was born on March 10, 1902 in Uetze, Hannover, Germany.  Upon immigration to United States, Frederick dropped the last “n” in his name and went by “Santelman.”  Frederick Santelman married Hermine Hartmann (13) in the United States.  Hermine is the daughter of Heinrich Hartmann and Frieda (Schneckenberger) Hartmann.  For additional information on the Hartmann line, see the Hartmann Family History.  Frederick and Hermine Santelman were the parents of one daughter:

   Eleanor Santelman (5), b. November 17, 1932, Battle Creek, Michigan

HARTMANN FAMILY HISTORY

Heinrich Hartmann is the oldest known Hartmann ancestor of the co-author, Diane (Thede) Casey.  Heinrich Hartmann was born on April 14, 1868 in Lüdigheim bei Rasstat, Germany.  It is known that Henrich had three siblings.  Therefore, the parents of Heinrich Hartmann had four children:

   Rosa Hartmann
   Marie Hartmann
   Katharina Hartmann

Rosa Hartmann never married.  Rosa Hartmann never married and lived in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.  Rosa Hartmann died during an air raid in 1944.  Marie Hartmann lived in Brukl, Shwetzingen - Baden, Germany.  Marie Hartmann married a Mr. Storf and they had four children:  -  Albert Storf,  -  Gustav Storf,  -  Minna Storf,  -  Rosa Storf.  Katharina Hartmann lived in Ketsch, Shetzingen - Baden, Germany.  Katharina Hartmann married a Mr. Finzer and they had two children:  -  Albert Finzer,  -  Elise Finzer.

HEINRICH HARTMANN (12) is the oldest known Hartmann ancestor of the co-author of this manuscript.  Heinrich was born on April 14, 1868 in Lüdigheim bei Rasstat, Germany.  Heinrich Hartmann married Frieda Schneckenberger (32).  Freida was born on May 9, 1876 in Epfenbach, Germany.  Heinrich and Freida Hartmann were the parents of four children:

   Gustav Hartmann, b. August 17, 1900, Heidelberg, Germany
   Hermine Hartmann (13), b. August 17, 1901, Heidelberg, Germany
   Georg Emil Hartmann, b. September 22, 1903, Heidelberg, Germany
   Elsa Irmgart Hartmann, b. September 28, 1904, Heidelberg, Germany

Heinrich Hartmann died on May 8, 1908 in Heidelberg, Germany.  After Heinrich’s death, Frieda Hartmann married a second time to Emil Ueberle and they had two sons.  For additional information on the Schneckberger line, see the sketch of the Schneckenberger Family History.  Gustav Hartmann lived in Marshall, Michigan.  Gustav Hartmann never married and died on November 4, 1977.  Hermine Hartmann married Friedrich Wilhelm Santelmann.  For additional information on the descendants of Friedrich and Hermine Santelmann, see the sketch of Freidrich Wilhelm Santelmann (4).  Georg Hartmann had three children:  -  Irmgard Hartmann,  -  Claus Hartmann,  -  Ursula Hartmann.  Georg Hartmann died on February 25, 1981.  Elsa Hartmann married a Mr. Schmidt and they had two children:  -  Louise Schmidt,  -  Carla Schmidt.  Elsa (Hartmann) Schmidt died on November 6, 1977.

SCHNECKENBERGER FAMILY HISTORY

Freida Schneckenberger is the oldest known Schneckenberger ancestor of the co-author, Diane (Thede) Casey.  Frieda Schneckenberger was born on May 9, 1876 in Epfenbach, Germany.  It is known that Freida had brothers.  Therefore, the parents of Freida Schneckenberger had three children:

   Freida Schneckenberger (32), b. May 9, 1876, Epfenbach, Germany
   Friedrich Schneckenberger
   Ludwig Schneckenberger

Freida Schneckenberger married Henrich Hartmann.  For additional information on this line, see the sketch of Heinrich Hartmann (12).  After the death of Heinrich Hartmann, Freida (Schneckenberger) Hartmann married a second time to Emil Ueberle.  Emil was born on March 5, 1885.  Emil and Freida Ueberle had two children:  -  Fritz Ueberle, b. April 25, 1914,  -  Ludwig Ueberle, b. September 28, 1916.  Freida (Schneckenberger) Ueberle died in the 1940s in Heidelberg, Germany.  Emil Ueberle died around 1956.  Fritz Ueberle had two sons and died during World War II.  Ludwig Ueberle had four daughters.

Friedrich Schneckenberger lived in Epfenbach, Linsheim - Baden, Germany.  Friedrich Schneckenberger had two sons:  -  Fritz Schneckenberger,  -  Wilhelm Schneckenberger.  Ludwig Schneckenberger lived Offenburg - Baden.  Ludwig Schneckenberger had two daughters:  -  Louise Schneckenberger,  Frieda Schneckenberger.  Louise Schneckenberger married a Mr. Koster.  Frieda Schneckenberger married a Mr. Schopf and they lived in Freiberg - Schramberg.
