WILLIAM BARKER SHELTON (1.2.5) is the son of Martin Shelton and Ann (Wininger) Shelton.  William was born in 1843 in Scott County, Virginia.  On October 18, 1864, William Shelton married Martha J. Bellomy (14.3.4.7) in Scott County, Virginia.  Martha was born in 1843 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of William R. Bellomy and Elizabeth (Rogers) Bellomy.  William and Martha Shelton were the parents of at least eight children:

In 1870, William and Martha Shelton were living in Scott County, Virginia.  Martha (Bellomy) Shelton died.  On July 15, 1883, William B. Shelton married a second time to Annie Jones in Scott County, Virginia.  Annie was born on October 9, 1849 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of Jacob Jones (born 1820, Virginia) and Rebecca (Wolfe) Jones (born 1818, Virginia).  Annie Jones’ brother, William Harvey Jones, married William Barker Shelton’s sister, Emily C. Shelton (1.2.10).  Oliver Jones’ sister, Mary E. Jones, married James L. Wininger (32.9.3).  Annie Jones’ brother, Commodore Jones, married Mary Ellen Wininger (30.11.5.1.14).  William and Annie Shelton were the parents of one daughter:

  Clara Rebecca Shelton (1.2.5.9), b. March 31, 1885, Scott County, Virginia

When Clara was young, William B. Shelton left and was never heard from again from his family.  In 1910, Annie (Jones) Shelton, her daughter, Clara, and her son-in-law, Grover Wininger, were living together in Scott County, Virginia.  Annie (Jones) Shelton died on January 26, 1926 in Scott County, Virginia.  Samuel Shelton married Tina Damewood (born April 15, 1874).  Samuel and Tina Shelton lived in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Samuel Shelton died on August 4, 1953 and Tina (Damewood) Shelton died on May 8, 1960.  Both were buried in the Clear Branch Cemetery in Luttrell, Tennessee.  Rosa Shelton married Charles Lee Flanagan and they had no children of their own.  They raised several relatives children, including Martha Washington Lovell, after the untimely death of her mother, Julia Ann (Phillips) Lovell on October 20, 1919.  Martha Lovell was only eight months old when her mother died and Rosa called her Marguerite and considered her as her own daughter.  Martha Lovell married her uncles nephew, Charles Flanagans nephew, Isaac Wamper Flanagan.  Isaac was the son of Roy and Cornelia Flanagan (Roy was Charles brother).

Clara Shelton married Grover Cleveland Wininger.  For additional information on the descendants of Grover and Clara Wininger, see the sketch of Grover Cleveland Wininger (32.10.5.8).  When Clara was very small her father, William B. Shelton, left his wife and was never heard from by his family.  Sometime in the 1960s, Clara was contacted by two half-sisters she never knew existed.  They were daughters of William B. Shelton from Missouri and Illinois.  They said their father left them when they were very young.

ELIZABETH ANNA SHELTON (1.2.5.1) is the daughter of Willam Barker Shelton and Martha J. (Bellomy) Shelton.  Elizabeth was born on November 11, 1867 in Scott County, Virginia.  On May 14, 1882, Elizabeth Shelton married John Lovell (born 1864) in Union County, Tennessee.  John and Elizabeth Lovell were the parents of seven children:

  Samuel David Lovell, b. November 19, 1884, Tennessee
  Lawrence J. Lovell, b. October 9, 1886, Tennessee
  Mae Belva Lovell (1.2.5.1.3), b. November 16, 1889, Bristol, Virginia

John and Elizabeth Lovell were later divorced.  John Lovell married a second time to Rosa Beckham.  John Lovell died on December 8, 1934 and was buried in the Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Elizabeth (Shelton) Lovell married a second time to John R. Phillips (born February 23, 1876).  Elizabeth (Shelton) Lovell died on September 23, 1924.  John Phillips married a second time to Katherine Violet Smith and they had three children.  John R. Phillips died of a cerebral hemorrhage on June 20, 1950.

Samuel D. Lovell died of a stroke on October 23, 1953 and was buried in the Clear Branch Cemetery in Luttrell, Tennessee.  Lawrence Lovell died of diabetes on August 23, 1954 and was buried in the Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.  William Lovell married Julia Ann Phillips.  Julia is a half-sister to John R. Phillips (who married Elizabeth (Shelton) Lovell) and half-brother to James Elbert Phillips (who married Belva Lovell).  William Lovell married a second time to Gertrude Mitchell.  William E. Lovell died of a cerebral hemorrhage on October 9, 1938 and was buried in the Union Cemetery in West Chester, Ohio.  Ida Lovell married Robert McGimpsey.  Rose Lovell died as a child on October 8, 1893.  Robert Lovell died as an infant and was buried in the Clear Branch Cemetery in Luttrell, Tennessee.

MAE BELVA LOVELL (1.2.5.1.3) is the daughter of John Lovell and Elizabeth Anna (Shelton) Lovell.  Belva was born on November 16, 1889 in Bristol, Virginia.  Belva Lovell married James Elbert Phillips.  James is the son of Henry Phillips and Mallissa (Penley) Phillips.  James and Belva Phillip were the parents of at least one daughter:

Belva (Lovell) Phillips died of a stroke on April 9, 1964 and was buried in the Union Cemetery in West Chester, Ohio.

ANNA IRENE PHILLIPS (1.2.5.1.3.1) is the daughter of James Elbert Phillips and Mae Belva (Lovell) Phillips.  Anna was born on September 10, 1910.  Anna Phillips married Alonzo Wallington Harper.  Alonzo was born on July 6, 1902 in Harper, Kentucky and is the son of Lafayette Harper and Rhoda Sue (Oney) Harper.  Alonzo and Anna Harper were the parents of at least one daughter:

BARBARA DONNA HARPER (1.2.5.1.3.1.1) is the daughter of Alonzo Wallington Harper and Rhoda Sue (Oney) Harper.  Barbara was born on March 2, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Barbara Harper married Clarence Frederick Swartz.  Clarence was born on April 28, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio and is the son of George Swartz and Cynthia Ann (Hall) Swartz.  Clarence and Barbara Swartz are the parents of at least one daughter:

  Dawna Lynn Swartz, b. August 17, 1952, Cincinnati, Ohio

On May 12, 1973, Dawna Swartz married Gary Higgins and they had at least one son:  -  Jamy Scott Higgins, b. March 2, 1977, Cincinnati, Ohio.  On November 14, 1977, Dawna married a second time to James Edward Jones and they had no children.  On May 14, 1983, Dawna Swartz married a third time to John Robert Gutknecht.  John was born on September 9, 1954 in Portage, Wisconsin and is the son of John Francis Gutknecht and Blanche Adeline (Miller) Gutnecht.  John Gutknecht was previously married (September, 1972) to Nancy Dubar in Covington, Kentucky and they had one son:  -  Adam Edward Gutnecht (later adopted by Johns sister and his name was changed to Adam Edward Staton), b. SAMUEL SHELTON (1.2.7) is the son of Martin Shelton and Ann (Wininger) Shelton.  Samuel was born on June 23, 1849 in Scott County, Virginia.  On September 2, 1871, Samuel Shelton married Sarah Freeman in Scott County, Virginia.  Sarah was born on September 7, 1848 in Carroll County, Virginia and is the daughter of Larken Freeman and Frances J. (Kirkbride) Freeman.  Sarahs sister, Mary Freeman, married Samuel Haynes (32.1.6).  Samuel and Sarah Shelton were the parents of at least nine children:

EMILY FRANCES SHELTON (1.2.7.1) is the daughter of Samuel Shelton and Sarah (Freeman) Shelton.  Emma was born on April 26, 1874 in Scott County, Virginia.  On June 12, 1896, Emma Shelton married Isaac C. Wolfe in Scott County, Virginia.  Isaac was born on October 14, 1873 in Scott County, Virginia and is the son of William H. Wolfe and Amanda Wolfe.  Isaac and Emily Wolfe were the parents of at least seven children:

In 1924, William Wolfe married Stella (Davidson) Rogan (32.1.5.3.10).  Stella was born on February 8, 1901 and is the daughter of James Davidson and Mary Ann (Rogers) Davidson.  William and Stella Wolfe lived in Scott County, Virginia.  William and Stella Wolfe were the parents of eight children:  -  Beatrice June Wolfe,  -  William H. Wolfe, Jr.,  -  Emily Jean Wolfe,  -  John M. Wolfe,  -  Sallie Lou Wolfe,  -  Landon Knox Wolfe,  -  Mary Ann Wolfe,  -  Thomas L. “Tommy” Wolfe.  Stella (Davidson) Wolfe died on June 3, 1971 and William H. Wolfe died on October 31, 1976.  Both were buried in the Holston View Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  Jean, John and Sally Lou are deceased.  Landon Wolfe lives in California.  Beatrice, William, Jr., Mary Ann and Tommy Wolfe live in Vincent, Tennessee.

John C. Wolfe never married and was killed in an accident on September 27, 1928 and was buried in the Wolfe Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  In 1929, Reeser Wolfe married Ruby Branamon in Kentucky and they have four children:  -  R. R. Wolfe, Jr.,  -  Richard C. Wolfe,  -  Emily M. Wolfe,  -  William Billy Wolfe.  Reeser Wolfe died on February 24, 1987.  On February 28, 1934, Mary Belle Wolfe married Albert C. Jones.  Albert was born on January 11, 1889 in Scott County, Virginia and is the son of John Wesley Jones and Alpha (Bellamy) Jones.  For additional information on the descendants of Albert and Mary Belle Jones, see the sketch of Albert C. Jones (14.6.3.3.10.1).  In 1940, N. J. Wolfe married Catherine Ruth Price in Scott County, Virginia and they were the parents of four children:  -  N. Wolfe died on May 30, 1960 and was buried in the Wolfe Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  Callie Wolfe never married and lives in Kentucky.

DAVID RANSOM SHELTON (1.2.7.2) is the son of Samuel Shelton and Sarah (Freeman) Shelton.  David was born in June 10, 1876 in Scott County, Virginia.  David Shelton married Lois M. Watkins (32.10.2.6).  Lois was born on October 16, 1879 in Virginia and is the daughter of Joseph J. Watkins and Martha Anne (Wininger) Watkins.  David and Lois Shelton were the parents of at least three children:

In 1900, David and Lois Shelton were living with Davids father in Scott County, Virginia.  David Shelton was killed in a railroad blasting explosion on June 30, 1906 and was buried in the Wininger Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  In 1910, Lois (Watkins) Shelton was living in Scott County, Virginia.  Lois married a second time to a Mr. Houseright.  For additional information, see the sketch of Lois Watkins (32.10.2.5).  Lois (Watkins) Shelton died on February 22, 1917 and was buried in the Wininger Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  After Lois died, Rhea Shelton was raised by his grandparents, Samuel and Sarah Shelton.  Howard Shelton was raised by his uncle, Claude Shelton and Joseph Shelton was raised by his uncle, James Shelton.  On August 18, 1921, Rhea Shelton married Elva Gertrude Bellamy in Scott County, Virginia and they had no children.  Gertie was born on May 18, 1900 and is the daughter of Thomas Bellamy and Martha Bellamy.  Rhea Shelton died on January 19, 1963 and Gertrude (Bellamy) Shelton died on September 18, 1971.  Both were buried in the Holston View Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  In 1934, Joseph R. Shelton married Gwendolyn McFarland and they had one son:  -  Joseph Randall Shelton, b. 1941.  Joseph and Gwendolyn Shelton lived in Kingsport, Tennessee.  Joseph Ransom Shelton died on June 2, 1972 and was buried in Kingsport, Tennessee.  In 1965, Joseph Randall Shelton married Doris Higgins (born 1943) and they have two children:  -  Lada Elizabeth Shelton, b. 1966,  -  Joseph Patrick Shelton, b. 1970.  Doris has Doctorate of Philosophy in Speech Therapy and works at a State School for retarded people in Greenville, Tennessee.  Joseph Randall Shelton is a lawyer and lives in Morristown, Tennessee.  Lada is the mother of one son:  -  Seth Ransom Shelton, b. 1985.

(Watkins) Shelton.  Howard was born on September 6, 1902 in Scott County, Virginia.  On September 7, 1927, Howard Shelton married Frances Jane Bellamy in Scott County, Virginia.  Fannie was born on January 27, 1906 and is the daughter of William Steel Bellamy and Julia (Freeman) Bellamy.  Howard and Fannie Shelton were the parents of four children:

Howard Shelton died on November 7, 1943 and Fannie (Bellamy) Shelton died on April 2, 1972.  Both were buried in the Wininger Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  On November 3, 1953, Phyllis Shelton married Perry F. Barr and they have three children:  -  Larry Wayne Barr, b. August 26, 1954,  -  David Michael Barr, b. November 4, 1960,  -  Terri Dianne Barr, b. June 13, 1962.  Perry and Phyllis Barr were divorced in 1973.  Phyllis (Shelton) Barr lives in Kingsport, Tennessee.  On November 25, 1980, Larry Barr married Debra Sue Lawson (born February 25, 1961) and they have two children:  -  Leslie Michelle Barr, b. April 27, 1982,  -  Leah Danielle Barr, b. March 9, 1984.  On April 20, 1979, David Barr married Nancy Debra Winegar (born January 27, 1960) and they have one son:  -  Brandon Michael Allan Barr, b. DEWEY GORDON SHELTON (1.2.7.2.2.2) is the son of Howard Samuel Shelton and Frances Jane (Bellamy) Shelton.  Dewey was born on January 8, 1930.  On March 30, 1955, Dewey Shelton married Margaret Pauline Harmon in Scott County, Virginia.  Margaret was born on January 14, 1934.  Dewey and Margaret Shelton are the parents of two children:

  Jerry Gordon Shelton, b. November 13, 1965

Dewey Shelton lives in Kingsport, Tennessee.  On August 16, 1980, Lisa Shelton married Jerry Lynn Davis (32.2.3.3.3.8.4) and they have no children.  On September 6, 1986, Jerry Shelton married Stephanie Ann Carlson (born August 25, 1966) and they have no children.

JAMES ORVILLE SHELTON (1.2.7.3) is the son of Samuel Shelton and Sarah (Freeman) Shelton.  James was born on June 20, 1878 in Scott County, Virginia.  On August 30, 1900, James Shelton married Frances Lucinda McKenzie (32.5.8.4) in Scott County, Virginia.  Fannie was born on February 4, 1883 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of David McKenzie and Mary Catherine (Haynes) McKenzie.  James and Fannie Shelton were the parents of one daughter:

In 1910, James and Fannie Shelton were living in Scott County, Virginia.  James Shelton died on January 2, 1958 and Frances (McKenzie) Shelton died on September 16, 1969.  Both were buried in the Holston View Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  On August 31, 1919, Elva Shelton married John Guy Horton (born August 13, 1902) and they had two children:  -  Mildred Frances Horton, b. September 13, 1920,  -  Jackson Lucien Horton, b. August 15, 1923.  Guy Horton died on February 6, 1947.  On September 3, 1951, Elva married a second time to Ray E. Carter (born November 14, 1898) and they had no children.  Ray Carter died on November 20, 1985.  On June 27, 1941, Mildred Horton married James Corbett Townsend (born December 21, 1919) and they have one daughter:  -  Jamis Cecilia Townsend, b. May 1, 1943.  James and Mildred Townsend were divorced on April 16, 1969.  On May 11, 1971, Mildred married a second time to Virgil Van Street (born May 11, 1907) and they have no children.  As of 1987, Mildred (Horton) Street was living in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Jamis Townsend is not married.  Jamis is a physical therapist and lives in Kentucky across the river from Cincinati, Ohio.  Jack Horton married Mildred Glover and they have one son:  -  Gerald Glover Horton, b. August 8, 1944.  Jack and Mildred Horton were later divorced.  Jack Horton lives in New York.

WILLIAM THOMAS SHELTON (1.2.7.4) is the son of Samuel Shelton and Sarah (Freeman) Shelton.  William was born on May 7, 1880 in Scott County, Virginia.  On August 26, 1900, William Shelton married Amanda Wininger in Scott County, Virginia.  Amanda was born on June 11, 1881 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of W. H. Wininger and A. P. Wininger.  William and Amanda Shelton were the parents of at least one son:

Amanda (Wininger) Shelton died on June 2, 1906 and was buried in the Wininger Cemetery in Scott County, Viriginia.  On August 9, 1908, William Shelton married a second time to Louvenia Davidson (32.1.5.3.1) in Scott County, Virginia.  Louvenia was born on April 27, 1884 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of James A. Davidson and Mary Ann (Rogers) Davidson.  William and Louvenia Shelton were the parents of four sons:

From 1910 to 1920, William and Louvenia Shelton were living in Scott County, Virginia.  Louvenia (Davidson) Shelton died on February 21, 1940 and William Thomas Shelton died on August 2, 1948.  Both were buried in the Wininger Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  After Amandas death, Herbert Shelton was raised by his grandparents, Samuel and Sarah Shelton.  On November 20, 1945, Thurman Shelton married Margaret Matthews in Scott County, Virginia.  Margaret was born in 1917 in Kentucky and is the daughter of W. Y. Matthews and Edna (Howard) Matthews.  Thurman and Margaret Shelton have two children:  -  Kathy Lee Shelton, b. December 28, 1946,  -  Edna Thurman Shelton, b. December 8, 1947.  Thurman Shelton died on September 3, 1983.

On May 4, 1938, Hassen Shelton married Margaret Kathleen Pendleton in Scott County, Virginia.  Margaret was born on August 4, 1916 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of Amos D. Pendleton and Mellie Adeline (Ratliff) Pendleton.  Hassen and Margaret Shelton were the parents of at least one daughter:  -  Susan Victoria Shelton (adopted), b. 1948.  Maragaret (Pendleton) Shelton died on February 19, 1974 and was buried in the Holston View Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  In 1974, Hassen Shelton was living in Gate City, Virginia.  Susan Shelton married Mike Palmer and was living in Kingsport, Tennessee in 1974.

On August 1, 1942, Jesse Shelton married Verna Opal Wolfe in Scott County, Virginia.  Verna was born in 1918 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of Jesse Wolfe and Fannie B. HERBERT LUTHER SHELTON (1.2.7.4.1) is the son of William Thomas Shelton and Amanda (Wininger) Shelton.  Herbert was born on August 19, 1906 in Scott County, Virginia.  On February 16, 1932, Herbert Shelton married Nettie Easterling in Scott County, Virginia.  Nettie was born on March 1, 1913 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of George W. Easterling and M. Helen (Osborne) Easterling.  Herbert and Nettie Shelton were the parents of six children:

SHELTON (1.2.7.4.2) is the son of William Thomas Shelton and Louvenia (Davidson) Shelton.  Roy was born on August 16, 1909 in Scott County, Virginia.  On December 29, 1934, Roy Shelton married Grace Moore (32.10.5.1.3.2) in Scott County, Virginia.  Grace was born on February 1, 1918 and is the daughter of Walker Blaine Moore and Nettie M. (Wininger) Moore.  Graces sister, Beulah Moore, married Elmer Shelton (1.2.7.7.7).  Roy and Grace Shelton are the parents of four children:

Roy Shelton died on March 21, 1984.  On December 24, 1959, James Shelton married Wilma Nell Porter (born April 20, 1935) and they have two children:  -  James Alan Shelton, b. December 19, 1963.  On September 19, 1987, James Alan Shelton married Greta Lynn Kinchelo.  Marty Shelton is engaged to be married to Cathy Lenora Cole and will be married on May 14, 1988.  In 1964, Ronald Shelton married Jean Carrico and they have three children:  -  Larissa Fonda Shelton, b. June 5, 1965,  -  Kimberly Wynn Shelton, b. July 10, 1968,  -  Bryan Wayne Shelton, b. August 2, 1970.  Ronald Shelton also has a stepdaughter:  -  Crystal Renee Carrico, b.
