JAMES LOGAN SHELTON (1.2.4.3) is the son of David Shelton and Irene (Epperson) Shelton.  James was born on April 26, 1864 in Scott County, Virginia.  On August 21, 1886, James Shelton married Martha Pattie Elizabeth Adams in Scott County, Virginia.  Pattie was born on September 13, 1863 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of Reverend James M. Adams and Mary A. (Stamper) Adams.  James and Pattie Shelton were the parents of nine children:

From 1900 to 1910, James and Martha Shelton were living in Scott County, Virginia.  Martha (Adams) Shelton died on September 23, 1935 in Scott County, Virginia and James Logan Shelton, Sr. died on April 19, 1949 in Scott County, Virginia.  Both were buried in the Shelton Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  On June 8, 1913, Rebecca Shelton married William Hamilton Jones in Scott County, Virginia.  William was born on June 13, 1891 in Scott County, Virginia and is the son of Fayett Jones and Jane Jones.  William Jones died on August 10, 1945 and Rebecca (Shelton) Jones died on January 26, 1946.  Both were buried in the Shelton Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  Basil Shelton died as an infant on February 28, 1891.  Bernice Shelton died as a child on December 28, 1896.  On July 2, 1932, Ruth Shelton married Robert Albert Knefel in Scott County, Virginia.  Robert was born in 1886 in New York and is the son of Paul Knefel and Annie (Hohn) Knefel.  Robert and Ruth Knefel lived in Kingsport, Tennessee.

On November 6, 1920, Lillian Shelton married Ezra E. Lane in Scott County, Virginia.  Ezra was born on December 2, 1893 in Scott County, Virginia and is the son of Lewis Lane and Nannie Lane.  Ezra and Lillian Lane were the parents of three children:  -  Ellie Sue Lane, b. September 2, 1921,  -  Mary Joe Lane, b. October 14, 1922,  -  Edward Lane, b. November 29, 1928 and d. December 24, 1928.  On June 23, 1920, Nannie Shelton married Conley T. McClellan in Scott County, Virginia.  Conley was born in 1900 in Scott County, Virginia and is the son of F. C. McClellan and Allice McClellan.  Conley and Nannie McClellan are the parents of five children:  -  June McClellan,  -  Vivian McClellan,  -  Anna Ruth McClellan,  -  Herman McClellan,  -  Conley T. McClellan, Jr.  Conley T. McClellan, Sr. died in 1937 and was buried in the Holston View Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.

MARY BELLE SHELTON (1.2.4.3.2) is the daughter of James Logan Shelton and Martha Elizabeth (Adams) Shelton.  Mary Belle was born on October 10, 1888 in Scott County, Virginia.  On January 22, 1911, Mary Belle Shelton married Grover Creed Starnes in Scott County, Virginia.  Grover was born on December 23, 1884 in Scott County, Virginia and is the son of Melvin Milo Starnes and Mary Elizabeth (Lane) Starnes.  Grover and Mary Belle Starnes lived near Kingsport, Tennessee.  Grover and Mary Belle Starnes were the parents of four children:

  James M. Starnes, b. August 15, 1915
  Mildred Starnes, b. September 9, 1917
  Hobert Woodrow Starnes, b. June 5, 1920

Mary Belle (Shelton) Starnes died on October 17, 1923 and was buried in the Shelton Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  Grover Starnes married a second time to a woman whose first name was Myrtle.  Grover Starnes died on June 15, 1961.  Grover’s second wife later married a Mr. Smith.  Ola Starnes married Ruth Tate and they had three children.  Ola married a second time to Rene (Russel) Tate and they had two children.  Ola Starnes died on December 3, 1980.  James Starnes married Virginia Wininger and they had three children:  -  David Starnes,  -  Blaine Starnes,  -  Glen Starnes.  On December 21, 1934, Mildred Starnes first married William Carver.  Mildred later married a second time.  Mildred had no children.

On July 11, 1942, Hobert Starnes married Lucille E. Taylor.  Lucille was born on July 20, 1923 and is the daughter of James E. Taylor and J. Ethel (McGuire) Taylor.  Hobert and Lucille Starnes were the parents of two children:  -  Sandra Sue Starnes, b. May 31, 1944,  -  Hobert Wayne Starnes, b. May 20, 1948.  Hobert Woodrow Starnes was a veteran of World War II and was an employee of Tennessee Eastman for twenty-five years.  Hobert was a lifelong resident of the Kingsport area.  Hobert Woodrow Starnes died on March 12, 1971 and was buried in the East Lawn Cemetery in Kingsport, Tennessee.  Lucille married a second time to Gene Little.  On June 8, 1968, Sandra Starnes married Arthur Williams.  Arthur is the son of Arthur H. Williams and Addie (Ling) Williams.  Arthur and Sandra Williams are the parents of one son:  -  John Arthur Williams, b. March 8, 1971.  On February 2, 1968, Wayne Starnes married Jean Fardey and they have one daughter:  -  Letitia Starnes.

MALCOLM LEO SHELTON (1.2.4.3.4) is the son of James Logan Shelton and Martha Elizabeth (Adams) Shelton.  Leo was born on March 30, 1892 in Scott County, Virginia.  On June 24, 1917, Leo Shelton married Rachel Coley in Scott County, Virginia.  Rachel was born on March 1, 1894 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of James Coley and Kate Coley.  Leo and Rachel Shelton were the parents of five children:

H. Watkins.  James and Bessie Shelton lived in Kingsport, Tennessee.  James and Bessie Shelton were the parents of ten children:

Byrd in Scott County, Virginia.  Ken was born in 1920 in Scott County, Virginia and is the son of Frank Byrd and Cora (Pierson) Byrd.  As of 1968, Mary Sue (Shelton) Byrd was living in Gate City, Virginia.  Betty Shelton married Denver C. Price.  As of 1968, Betty (Shelton) Price was living in Gate City, Virginia.

As of 1968, Patty (Shelton) Price was living in Downey, California.  Patty Shelton married Walter Fouts and lives in Bellflower, California.  As of 1968, Jimmie Shelton was living in Elizabethtown, Tennessee.  As of 1968, Charles Shelton was living in Kingsport, Tennessee.  As of 1968, Bobby Shelton and Shirley Shelton were living in Gate City, Virginia.  Shirley Shelton married Jerry Kilgore.

ALBERT McGARVEY SHELTON (1.2.4.3.9.7) is the son of James Logan Shelton, Jr. and Nancy Bessie (Watkins) Shelton.  Albert was born in 1941.  Albert Shelton was a lifelong resident of Scott County, Virginia and was a 1959 graduate of Gate City High School.  He was a graduate of Hiwassee College, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory and Henry College and a Doctor of Juris Prudence from the University of Tennessee School of Law.  Albert began to practice law in 1965 and was elected Commonwealths Attorney of Scott County, Virginia for one term, later returning to private practice until his appointment as a judge of the the 30th Judicial District for the counties of Lee, Scott, Wise and the city of Norton, Virginia.  Judge Shelton was a member and past president of the Scott County, Virginia Bar Association, a member of the Virginia State Bar Association, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association.  He was also a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, former attorney for the town of Weber City, past chairman of the Ninth District Young Democratic Club and past treasurer of the Scott County Democratic Party.  Judge Shelton was also past president of the Gate City Civitan Club and served as secretary of the Scott County Redevelopment and Housing Authority from 1972 to 1977.  He was a member of the Scott County Appeals Board from 1974 to 1978 and was vice president of the Empire Development, Inc.  Albert Shelton married Alice Taylor and they had four children:

Albert Shelton died in 1979 in Kingsport. Tennesse and was buried in the Holston View Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.

ELIZABETH ANN SHELTON (1.2.4.5) is the daughter of David Shelton and Irene (Epperson) Shelton.  Bettie was born on September 16, 1869 in Scott County, Virginia.  On October 23, 1889, Bettie Shelton married Benjamin L. Bussell in Scott County, Virginia.  Benjamin was born in August of 1853 in Hawkins County, Tennessee and is the son of John R. Bussell and Elizabeth Bussell.  Benjamin and Bettie Bussell were the parents of three children:

  Nannie Belle Bussell, b. September 20, 1889, Tennessee
  Benjamin Henry Bussell, b. February, 1893, Tennessee
  William John Bussell, b. March, 1894, Tennessee

In 1900, Benjamin and Elizabeth Bussell were living in Hawkins County, Tennessee.  Bettie (Shelton) Bussell died on July 1, 1901.  In 1910, Ben Bussell and his two sons were still living in Hawkins County, Tennessee.  In 1920, Ben Bussell and his second wife, Annie B. Bussell (born 1896 in Virginia), were living in Scott County, Virginia.  Ben and Annie Bussell had two children:  -  Hugh E. Bussell (born 1917 in Tennessee),  -  William Bussell (born 1918, Virginia).  On February 3, 1907, Nannie Bussell married Ellis Ross (born June 9, 1879) and they lived near Fortuna, California.  Ellis and Nannie Ross are the parents of eight children:  -  Gertha Grace Ross,  -  Mattie Eulalia Ross,  -  Robert Cornelius Ross,  -  Nannie Belle Ross,  -  Lawrence Ellis Ross,  -  Elizabeth Irene Ross,  -  William Thomas Ross,  -  Marion Jean Ross.

STEPHEN MARTIN SHELTON (1.2.4.6) is the son of David Shelton and Irene (Epperson) Shelton.  Stephen was born on December 6, 1872 in Scott County, Virginia.  On September 23, 1894, Stephen Shelton married Louvenia Carmack Wininger (32.2.4.1).  Louvenia was born on December 14, 1873 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of James OBrian Wininger and Amanda Tennessee (Haynes) Wininger.  Stephen and Louvenia Shelton were the parents of eleven children:

In 1900, Stephen and Louvenia Shelton were living in Scott County, Virginia.  Steve Shelton farmed near Yuma, Virginia until 1907 when he moved to Big Stone Gap where he began working at the Tannery until it closed in the early 1930s.  In the 1920s, Steve was elected to the Big Stone Gap town council and served one year.  Louvenia (Wininger) Shelton died on April 20, 1957 in Norton, Virginia and Stephen Martin Shelton died on February 19, 1963 in Norton, Virginia.  Both were buried in the Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.  Stephen and Louvenia Shelton’s son died the same day that he was born, December 20, 1895.  Jasper Shelton died the same day that he was born, November 27, 1896.

On February 28, 1923, Lelia Shelton married James Everette Wells in Powell Valley, Virginia.  James was born on February 28, 1905 in Dorchester, Virginia and is the son of F. M. Wells and Martha (Hensley) Wells.  James and Lelia Wells lived in Lynch, Kentucky.  James and Lelia Wells are the parents of one daughter:  -  Dorothy Louise Wells, b. February 23, 1924, Dorchester, Virginia.  James Wells died on August 31, 1958 in Norton, Virginia and was buried in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wise County, Virginia.  Dorothy Wells married Leslie Robert Richter in Germany.  Leslie was born on November 27, 1923 in Patterson, New Jersey and is the son of R. On May 4, 1929, Beulah Shelton married Pryor Jesse Miller in Whitesburg, Kentucky.  Pryor was born on June 10, 1900 in Kyles Ford, Tennessee and is the son of William W. Miller and Mary (Gilliam) Miller.  Pryor and Beulah Miller had no children.  Pryor Miller died on May 20, 1962 in Appalachia, Virginia and was buried in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wise County, Virginia.  Harry Shelton married Emma Rebar and lived in Omar, West Virginia.  Harry and Emma Shelton are the parents of three children:  -  Betty Gene Shelton,  -  Zeppie Shelton,  -  Regina Shelton.  Emma (Rebar) Shelton died on January 8, 1974 and was buried in Winter Haven, Florida.

In July of 1939, Stephen Clayton Shelton married Margaret Jessee in Whitesburg, Kentucky.  Margaret is the daughter of Richmond R. Jessee and Cora Easter (Blair) Jessee.  Stephen and Margaret Shelton were the parents of three children:  -  name unknown,  -  Rebecca Shelton,  -  Stephen Richmond Shelton.  Stephen Clayton Shelton died on May 21, 1983 in Pulaski, Virginia.  Rebecca Becky Shelton married Wayne Farmer.  Ruby Shelton died at the age of two on June 5, 1921 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia and was buried there in the Glencoe Cemetery.

TRULA CLEO SHELTON (1.2.4.6.5) is the daughter of Stephen Martin Shelton and Louvenia Carmack (Wininger) Shelton.  Trula was born on February 26, 1903 in Yuma, Virginia.  On April 4, 1929, Trula Shelton married Louie Reach.  Louie was born on July 5, 1906 in Lucille, Alabama and is the son of Thomas Jackson Reach and Alice Christine (Herron) Reach.  Louie and Trula Reach were the parents of five children:

ORA IRENE SHELTON (1.2.4.6.6) is the daughter of Stephen Martin Shelton and Louvenia Carmack (Wininger) Shelton.  Ora was born on June 23, 1905 in Scott County, Virginia.  On June 24, 1923, Ora Shelton married Theodore Roosevelt Robinette (born November 20, 1904).  Theodore and Ora Robinette were the parents of four children:

Theodore Robinette died and was buried in the Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.  On November 16, 1940, Ora married a second time to Jefferson Davis Herron in Harlan, Kentucky.  Jefferson was born on November 24, 1900 in Greeneville, Tennessee and is the son of Granville Herron and Margarette (Thompson) Herron.  Jefferson and Ora Herron were the parents of one daughter:

Jefferson Herron died on June 13, 1967 in Rogersville, Tennessee and was buried there.  Lawrence Robinette died in 1930 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia and was buried there.  On October 8, 1952, Beulah Robinette married Harry Mansel Barry in Pressmens Home, Tennessee.  Harry was born on October 8, 1912 in Unicoi, Tennessee and is the son of Charles Anderson Barry and Senia (Jones) Barry.  Harry and Beulah Barry are the parents of two children:  -  Harriet Virginia Barry, b. January 26, 1954, Kingsport, Tennessee,  -  Harry Mansel Barry, Jr., b. July 4, 1958, Kingsport, Tennessee.  On June 3, 1983, Harry Mansel Barry, Jr. married Tambra Taylor in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Georgia Robinette died in 1934 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia and was buried there.  Shirley Robinette died in 1935 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia and was buried there.  On May 9, 1965, Margarette Herron married William Aubry Thompson in Rogersville, Tennessee.  William was born on November 18, 1941 in Winchester, Tennessee and is the son of Aubry Shelton Thompson and Catholine (Arnold) Thompson.  William and Margarette Thompson had no children.  Margarette (Herron) Thompson died on March 13, 1985 and was cremated.

WILLIAM CLINTON SHELTON (1.2.4.6.8) is the son of Stephen Martin Shelton and Louvenia Carmack (Wininger) Shelton.  William was born on August 27, 1910 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.  On May 23, 1936, William Shelton married Ida LaNell Witt in Pikeville, Kentucky.  Ida was born on January 20, 1912 in Arno, Virginia and is the daughter of Charles Russell Witt and Margaret Love (King) Witt.  William and Ida Shelton were the parents of two children:

Ida LaNell (Witt) Shelton died on November 8, 1984 in Deland, Florida and was buried there in the DeLand Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  William C. Shelton, Sr. is an active genealogist and contributed to the complilation of this book.  On February 22, 1969, Margaret Shelton married Ernest Samuel Santilli in Alexandria, Virginia.  Ernest was born on November 19, 1930 in Washington, District of Columbia.  Ernest and Margaret Santilli are the parents of two children:  -  Edward Scott Santilli, b. December 10, 1969, Washington, District of Columbia,  -  Carol Anne Santilli, b. April 21, 1972, Washington, District of Columbia.

On June 26, 1965, William Shelton, Jr. married Margaret Ann Blatter in Oakdale, Tennessee.  Margaret was born on June 1, 1944 in Barnesville, Ohio and is the daughter of Delbert Blatter and Margaret Blatter.  William and Margaret Shelton have two children:  -  Brett Evan Shelton, adopted, b. January 11, 1977, Daytona Beach, Florida,  -  Megan Elise Shelton, b. August 14, 1980, Deland, Florida.

GEORGIA LUCILLE SHELTON (1.2.4.6.9) is the daughter of Stephen Martin Shelton and Louvenia Carmack (Wininger) Shelton.  Georgia was born on April 12, 1913 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.  On October 17, 1939, Georgia Shelton married Sherman Lewis Miller in Whitesburg, Kentucky.  Sherman was born on August 27, 1910 in Hancock County, Tennessee and is the son of William Washington Miller and Jemima (Gilliam) Miller.  Sherman and Georgia Miller are the parents of one daughter:

  Donna Marlene Miller, b. October 13, 1940, Appalachia, Virginia

Georgia was owner and operator of the Elite and Nu Joye Beauty Shops for many years.  Georgia (Shelton) Miller died on February 3, 1987 and was buried in the East Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.  On August 8, 1959, Donna Miller married John Harvey Payne (born February 23, 1937 in Knoxville, Tennessee).  John and Donna Payne are the parents of two children:  -  John Stephen Payne, b. March 3, 1960, Knoxville, Tennessee,  -  Stewart Sherman Payne, b. July 13, 1961, Knoxville, Tennessee.

ROBERT A. D. SHELTON (1.2.4.7) is the son of David Shelton and Irene (Epperson) Shelton.  Robert was born on August 14, 1876 in Scott County, Virginia.  On August 15, 1897, Robert Shelton first married Ida V. Haynes in Scott County, Virginia.  Ida was born in February of 1880 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of Samuel W. Haynes and Mary Haynes.  In 1900, Robert and Ida Shelton were living in Scott County, Virginia.  Roberts mother, Irene, and Roberts brother, Clinton, were living with them.  Ida (Haynes) Shelton died.  On July 10, 1902, Robert Shelton married a second time to Dora A. Noblin in Scott County, Virginia.  Dora was born on August 1, 1876 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of Elexandre Noblin and E. V. Noblin.  Robert and Dora Shelton were the parents of eight children:

From 1910 to 1920, Robert and Dora Shelton were living in Scott County, Virginia.  Robert and Dora Shelton lived in Gate City, Virginia.  Robert Shelton died on August 22, 1945 in Scott County, Virginia and Dora (Noblin) Shelton died on December 7, 1949.  Both were buried in the Oak Glen Church Cemetery near Weber City, Virginia.  On November 23, 1933, Monnie Shelton married Floyd Odell Williams (born June 10, 1899) and they are the parents of one daughter:  -  Monnie Lou Williams, b. September 15, 1934.  On June 11, 1929, Willard Shelton married Dona Virginia McMullen (born July 3, 1913) and they are the parents of two children:  -  Willard Smith Shelton, b. On December 8, 1934, Geneva Shelton married Curtis L. Williams in Scott County, Virginia.  Curtis was born in 1909 in Bedford County, Virginia and is the son of Homer Williams and Alberta (Leftwich) Williams.  On June 19, 1937, Alex Shelton married Hazel Fields in Scott County, Virginia.  Hazel was born on November 14, 1922 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of W. Bartley Fields and Victoria (Vicars) Fields.  Hazel’s sister, Gertrude Fields, married Alex Shelton’s first cousin, Fitzhugh Lee Shelton (1.2.4.1.9).  On February 3, 1939, Glenna Shelton married J. C. McClellan in Scott County, Virginia.  J. C. was born in 1913 in Scott County, Virginia and is the son of P. H. McClellan and Clara (Hilton) McClellan.

HUBERT ALLEY SHELTON (1.2.4.7.2) is the son of Robert A. D. Shelton and Dora A. (Noblin) Shelton.  Hubert was born on May 19, 1904 in Scott County, Virginia.  Hubert Shelton married Ola Frances Williams (born June 9, 1904) and they were the parents of three children:

  Ola May Shelton, b. May 3, 1929, Tennessee
  Richard Talmage Shelton, b. June 3, 1932

Hubert Shelton, Sr. died in 1972.  As of 1972, Ola (Williams) Shelton was living in Gate City, Virginia.  As of 1972, Hubert Shelton, Jr. was living in Kingsport, Tennessee.  On August 10, 1946, Ola May Shelton married Herman Davison in Scott County, Virginia.  Herman was born in 1924 in Tennessee and is the son of Nath Davison and Alice (Hicks) Davison.  As of 1976, Ola May (Shelton) Gammon was living in Bristol, Tennessee.  As of 1976, Richard Shelton was living in Chillicothe, Ohio.

HENRY CLINTON SHELTON (1.2.4.8) is the son of David Shelton and Irene (Epperson) Shelton.  Henry was born on March 11, 1881 in Scott County, Virginia.  On January 18, 1904, Henry Shelton married Lockie S. Taylor (32.2.3.3.1) in Scott County, Virginia.  Lockie was born in August of 1884 in Scott County, Virginia and is the daughter of John H. Taylor and Nancy Jane (Wininger) Taylor.  Henry and Lockie Shelton were the parents of two children:

  Bettie E. Shelton, b. March 27, 1905, Scott County, Virginia
  Lockie Lenora Shelton, b. February 25, 1907, Scott County, Virginia

Lockie (Taylor) Shelton died on August 26, 1907 and was buried in the Haynes Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.  On October 13, 1925, Henry Shelton married a second time to Ebbie Christian (born July 8, 1871) and they lived in Church Hill, Tennessee.  Henry Shelton died on May 5, 1968 in Kingsport, Tennessee.

On December 29, 1925, Bettie Shelton married James C. Robinette in Scott County, Virginia.  James was born on August 15, 1906 in Scott County, Virginia amd is the son of G. D. Robinette and Elizabeth Robinette.  James and Bettie Robinette are the parents of seven children:  -  Verdie Lee Robinette, b. April 28, 1926,  -  Gale B. Robinette, b. October 23, 1927,  -  Wilmouth L. Robinette, b. July 13, 1930,  -  Ebbie Robinette, b. March 25, 1932,  -  Ira C. Robinette, b. January 13, 1934,  -  Landin D. Robinette, b. 1935,  -  Elizabeth A. Robinette, b. 1938.

On August 26, 1932, Lockie Shelton married Allen Christian in Scott County, Virginia.  Allen was born on May 26, 1913 in Tennessee and is the son of App Christian and Nancy (Helbert) Christian.  Allen and Lockie Christian are the parents of four children:  -  Virginia Joann Christian, b. August 20, 1933,  -  Charles O’Dell Christian, b. June 20, 1934,  -  John Allen Christian, b. 1942,  -  Lockie Lenora Christian, b. 1946.  Lockie (Shelton) Christian died on February 6, 1996 in Hawkins County, Tennessee.  Virginia Christian married Theodus Cox.  Charles Christian married Bobby Arnold.  Lockie Christian married John Amos.
