John Olliff and Lucinda (Kirkland) Olliff

JOHN OLLIFF (1.4.4) is the son of Joseph Olliff and Rebecca (Donaldson) Olliff.  John was born on July 19, 1825 in Georgia.  On December 6, 1846, John Olliff married Lucinda Kirkland in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Lucy was born on July 15, 1830 in Georgia and is the daughter of Joshua Kirkland and Harriet (Lee) Kirkland.  Lucy is the granddaughter of Richard Kirkland who served in the Revolutionary War.  John Olliff was a merchant and farmer.  He also served as treasurer of the county for a number of years.  John and Lucy Olliff were the parents of fifteen children:

From 1850 to 1880, John and Lucinda Olliff were living in Bulloch County, Georgia.  John Olliff, Sr. died on September 6, 1888 and Lucy (Kirkland) Olliff died at Adabell, Georgia on November 11, 1905.  Both were buried in the Lower Lotts Creek Cemetery in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Jasper Olliff died as an infant on December 17, 1868.  Nancy Ardelia “Jincy” Olliff married James Fershey Akins.  For additional information on the descendants of James and Jincy Akins, see the sketch of James Fershey Akins (1.4.2.1.3).

WILLIAM WESLEY OLLIFF (1.4.4.1) is the son of John Olliff and Lucy (Kirkland) Olliff.  William was born on November 30, 1847 in Bulloch County, Georgia.  On December 19, 1867, William Olliff married America Anna Kennedy.  America was born on July 19, 1851 in Georgia and is the daughter of Jimperson Kennedy.  William and America Olliff were the parents of at least twelve children:

From 1870 to 1880, William and America Olliff were living in Bulloch County, Georgia.  William Olliff was very successful financially and became one of the richest men in Bulloch County, Georgia.  At the time of his death, his estate was valued at $200,000 and he owned over 30,000 acres of land.  William Wesley Olliff died on March 13, 1893 and was buried in the Excelsior Cemetery in Bulloch County, Georgia.  In 1900, Anna (Kennedy) Olliff was living with her children in Bulloch County, Georgia.  America (Kennedy) Olliff died on July 26, 1900 and was buried in the Excelsior Cemetery in Bulloch County, Georgia.

J. Lester Olliff died in Texas of consumption on January 24, 1905 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  Jimps B. Olliff died in Colorado of consumption on June 18, 1897 and was buried in the Excelsior Cemetery in Bulloch County, Georgia.  George Olliff died as a child on March 11, 1879 and was buried in the Excelsior Cemetery in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Mattie Olliff died as a child on January 16, 1888 and was buried in the Excelsior Cemetery in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Della Olliff died as a child on June 9, 1885 and was buried in the Excelsior Cemetery in Bulloch County, Georgia.  In May of 1902, Lucy Olliff married Dr. J. T. Rogers of Savannah, Georgia.  Lucy (Olliff) Rogers died on April 13, 1904 in Savannah, Georgia and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  Gordon Olliff died as a child on January 18, 1897 and was buried in the Excelsior Cemetery in Bulloch County, Georgia.

JOHN W. OLLIFF (1.4.4.1.1) is the son of William Wesley Olliff and America (Kennedy) Olliff.  John was born on March 15, 1870 in Bulloch County, Georgia.  On January 2, 1899, John Olliff married Mary Lee in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Mary was born on November 17, 1878 in Bulloch County, Georgia and is the daughter of James Frank Lee and Caroline Julia (Brannen) Lee.  John and Mary Olliff were the parents of two children:

   Willie Lee Olliff (1.4.4.1.1.1), b. June 3, 1900, Bulloch County, Georgia
   John W. Olliff, Jr., b. June 29, 1905, Bulloch County, Georgia

In 1900, John and Mary Olliff were living with John’s mother, America (Kennedy) Olliff, in Bulloch County, Georgia.  John W. Olliff died of Bright’s Disease on November 8, 1907 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  On July 17, 1909, Mary (Lee) Olliff married a second time to Lester W. Armstrong in Savannah, Georgia.  From 1910 to 1920, Lester and Mary Armstrong were living in Bulloch County, Georgia along with Mary’s two children by her previous marriage, Willie and John Olliff (1910 only).  Mary (Lee) Armstrong died on March 5, 1924 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  John Olliff, Jr. died as a child on January 14, 1913 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.

WILLIE LEE OLLIFF (1.4.4.1.1.1) is the daughter or John W. Olliff and Mary (Lee) Olliff.  Willie was born on June 3, 1900 in Bulloch County, Georgia.  On June 16, 1921, Willie Olliff married Samuel Edwin Groover, Jr. in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Samuel is the son of Samuel Edwin Groover and Ella Virginia (Hodges) Groover.  Samuel and Willie Groover were the parents of three children:

   Samuel Edwin Groover, III, b. September 11, 1922, Bulloch County, Georgia
   Mary Virginia “Jennie” Groover, b. March 4, 1924, Bulloch County, Georgia
   John Olliff Groover, b. March 30, 1925, Bulloch County, Georgia

In 1930, Samuel and Willie Groover were living in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Samuel Groover, Jr. died on April 20, 1945 in Bulloch County, Georgia and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  Willie married a second time to W. E. Cobb and they had no children.  Willie (Olliff) Groover died on December 21, 1975 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  On December 27, 1945, Jennie Groover married Walker Pratt “Tiny” Hill, Jr. (born September 12, 1922 in Hart County, Georgia) in Statesboro, Georgia.  Walker and Jennie Hill had four children:  -  Walker “Pratt” Hill, III, b. March 1, 1950, Bulloch County, Georgia,  -  Edwin Groover Hill, b. September 20, 1952, Bulloch County, Georgia,  -  Randy Frank Hill, b. July 5, 1955, Bulloch County, Georgia,  -  James Lee Hill, b. October 29, 1958, Bulloch County, Georgia.  Walker P. Hill died on November 19, 1982.

MAXIE PONITA OLLIFF (1.4.4.1.2) is the daughter of William Wesley Olliff and America (Kennedy) Olliff.  Maxie was born on October 23, 1871 in Bulloch County, Georgia.  On July 8, 1891, Maxie Olliff married Washington Manassas Foy in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Manassas was born on January 23, 1862 in Egypt, Georgia and is the son of George Washington Foy (born 1825, Georgia) and Mary Jane (Brinson) Foy (born 1838).  Manassas and Maxie Foy were the parents of seven children:

   Inman Murphy Foy (1.4.4.1.2.2), b. December 22, 1894, Bulloch County, Georgia

In 1900, Manassas and Maxie Foy were living in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Washington M. Foy died of typhoid fever on January 9, 1903 in Statesboro, Georgia and was buried there in the Eastside Cemetery.  In October of 1905, Maxie (Olliff) Foy married a second time to Dr. James Elijah Donehoo.  James was born on March 4, 1867 in Georgia and is the son of James W. Donehoo.  James and Maxie Donehoo were the parents of four children:

In 1910, James and Maxie Donehoo were living in Bulloch County, Georgia.  James Donehoo, Sr. was a physician.  Maxie (Olliff) Donehoo died on April 1, 1949 and James Elijah Donehoo died on November 29, 1949.  Both were buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  George W. Foy died at the age of fourteen months.  Janie Foy was buried in Excelsior, Georgia.  William Foy died at the age of nine months.

On November 16, 1921, Marian Foy married Dight Bruce Olliff.  Bruce is the son of Francis Dight Olliff and Eugenia (Mercer) Olliff.  For additional information on the descendants of Bruce and Marian Olliff, see the sketch of Dight Bruce Olliff (1.4.2.8.4).  On April 23, 1924, Louise Foy married Frank Simmons, son of W. H. James Edwin Donehoo married Ollie Smith and lived in Charleston, South Carolina.  Edwin and Ollie Donehoo had no children.  James Edwin Donehoo died on November 9, 1969 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  Evelyn Donehoo died as an infant on March 13, 1911 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  On June 14, 1930, Nita Donehoo married Jason Morgan of Savannah, Georgia and they have two children:  -  Jason Morgan, Jr.,  -  Nita Morgan, b. September 21, 1938.  Jason Morgan, Jr. married Carrie Goldsmit and they have two children:  -  Jason Morgan, III,  -  Michelle Morgan.  Nita Morgan married Pomeroy Williams of Savannah, Georgia and they have two children:  -  Pomeroy Williams, Jr.,  -  Morgan Williams.

INMAN MURPHY FOY (1.4.4.1.2.2) is the son of Washington Manassas Foy and Maxie Ponita (Olliff) Foy.  Inman was born on December 22, 1894 in Bulloch County, Georgia.  On October 25, 1916, Inman Foy married Lena Belle Smith.  Lena was born on November 3, 1895 and is the daughter of William Turner Smith and Ann Elizabeth (Hall) Smith.  Inman and Lena Foy were the parents of three children:

   Rebecca Fay Foy (1.4.4.1.2.2.1), b. August 16, 1917, Bulloch County, Georgia
   Maxann Foy, b. January 9, 1922, Bulloch County, Georgia
   Inman Murphy Foy, Jr., b. April 7, 1926, Bulloch County, Georgia

In 1930, Inman and Lena Foy were living in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Lena Belle (Smith) Foy died on September 9, 1960 and Inman Foy died on January 24, 1974.  Both were buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  On September 14, 1940, Fay Foy married Jasper Edmund “Jake” Smith.  For additional information on the descendants of Jake and Fay Smith, see the sketch of Jasper Edmund Smith (1.4.2.3.2.8).

Maxann Foy never married.  Maxann Foy died on November 19, 1982 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  On July 9, 1948, Inman Foy, Jr. married Anna Jacqueline “Jackie” Bowen (1.4.4.9.1.3.3).  Jackie was born on March 21, 1927 and is the daughter of George Bernard Bowen and Myrtis Sumner (Rushing) Bowen.  Inman and Jackie Foy have two children:  -  Inman Murphy “Tripp” Foy, III, b. November 2, 1951, Bulloch County, Georgia,  -  Gail Foy, b. January 8, 1954, Bulloch County, Georgia.  On February 26, 1983, Inman Foy, III married Sarah Helen Hall in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Sarah is the daughter of Rufus Hall of Soperton, Georgia.  Inman and Sarah Foy have two children:  -  Abigail Hall Foy, b. November 15, 1989,  -  Anna Murphy Foy, b. June 12, 1992.  Gail Foy has never married.

JESSE PONITA FOY (1.4.4.1.2.5) is the son of Washington Manassas Foy and Maxie Ponita (Olliff) Foy.  Jesse was born on July 1, 1898 in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Jesse Ponita Foy married Ida Teresa (Doll) Bird of Metter, Georgia.  Jesse and Ida Foy were the parents of two children:

   Betty Bird Foy
   Teresa Foy

Jesse Foy died on November 12, 1942 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  Betty Bird Foy married Carl Sanders and they had two children:  -  Betty Foy Sanders,  -  Carl Sanders, Jr.  Carl Sanders (Betty’s husband) was governor of Georgia from 1963 to 1966.  Teresa Foy married Aulbert J. Brannen and they have five children:  -  Beth Brannen,  -  Lawton Brannen,  -  Aulbert Brannen, Jr.,  -  Anna Brannen,  -  Betty Brannen.

JANIE OLLIFF (1.4.4.1.5) is the daughter of William Wesley Olliff and America (Kennedy) Olliff.  Janie was born on January 29, 1877 in Georgia.  On September 10, 1893, Janie Olliff married Dr. Robert L. Samples (born 1867 in Georgia) in Bulloch County, Georgia.  From 1900 to 1910, Robert and Janie Samples were living in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Robert and Janie Samples were the parents of eight children:

Janie (Olliff) Samples died on Mary 24, 1913 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  Maxie Samples married a Mr. Applegate.  Maxie (Samples) Applegate died on April 9, 1961 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  Horace Samples married and had one daughter.  Harry B. Samples died as an infant on February 17, 1906 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.  Janie Lou Samples married Guy Roundtree of Twin City (Graymont-Summit), Georgia.  Guy and Janie Lou Roundtree have four daughters.  Allie Samples married Horace Rees of Union, New Jersey and they have no children.

ALLIE BLANCHE OLLIFF (1.4.4.1.10) is the daughter of William Wesley Olliff and America (Kennedy) Olliff.  Allie was born on April 1, 1887 in Bulloch County, Georgia.  On April 18, 1905, Allie Olliff married Cecil Williams Brannen.  Cecil was born on October 26, 1883 in Savannah, Georgia and is the son of James Alonzo Brannen and Alice Vernon (Williams) Brannen.  Cecil and Allie Brannen were the parents of three daughters:

   Dorothy Vernon Brannen, b. February 7, 1905, Statesboro, Georgia
   Lucy Mae Brannen (1.4.4.1.10.2), b. October 14, 1907, Statesboro, Georgia

In 1910 and 1930, Cecil and Allie Brannen were living in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Cecil W. Brannen died on February 2, 1932 and Allie (Olliff) Brannen died on August 11, 1965.  Both died in Statesboro, Georgia and were buried there in the Eastside Cemetery.  Dorothy Brannen never married.  Dorothy Brannen died on October 2, 1990 and was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia.

LUCY MAE BRANNEN (1.4.4.1.10.2) is the daughter of Cecil Williams Brannen and Allie Blanche (Olliff) Brannen.  Lucy was born on October 14, 1907 in Statesboro, Georgia.  On October 28, 1930, Lucy Mae Brannen married Robert Franklin Donaldson, III in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Robert was born on September 17, 1905 in Statesboro, Georgia and is the son of Robert George Franklin Donaldson, Jr. and Cynthia Leona (Mercer) Donaldson.  Robert and Lucy Mae Donaldson were the parents of two children:

SARAH JANE OLLIFF (1.4.4.2) is the daughter of John Olliff and Lucy (Kirkland) Olliff.  Sarah was born on December 12, 1848 in Bulloch County, Georgia.  On January 9, 1867, Sarah Jane Olliff married James Riggs (born June 4, 1843 in Georgia) in Bulloch County, Georgia.  James enlisted as a private in the “Bulloch Guards” on March 4, 1862.  On May 12, 1862, he was transferred to Company C, 47th Regiment of the Georgia Infantry.  James was wounded at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee on November 25, 1863.  James and Sarah Riggs were the parents of at least nine children:

From 1920 to 1930, Lawson and Allie Holloway were living in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Lawson Holloway was a florist.  Lawson Holloway died on May 13, 1953 and was buried in the Lake Church Cemetery.  Allie (Riggs) Holloway died on February 20, 1972.  On April 27, 1935, Arretha Holloway married Coy H. Temples.  Coy was born on August 27, 1907 and is the son of Ambrose E. Temples and Sarah Elizabeth (Nevils) Temples.  Coy and Arretha Temples had one son:  -  Coy Hudson Temples, b. October 11, 1936.  Coy Temples, Sr. died on January 27, 1945.  On July 30, 1967, Coy Temples, Jr. married Martha “Noel” Benson.  Noel was born on March 16, 1943 and is the daughter of Robert Moore Benson and Martha (Cone) Benson.  Coy and Noel Temples have three children:  -  William “Bill” Temples, b. RIGGS (1.4.4.2.2) is the son of James Riggs and Sarah Jane (Olliff) Riggs.  “Jap” was born on February 14, 1869 in Bulloch County, Georgia.  On February 11, 1897, Jasper Riggs married Sallie Nevils in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Sallie was born on March 24, 1874 in Georgia and is the daughter of John A. Nevils and Moselle Nevils.  In 1900, Jasper Riggs and Sallie Riggs were living in Bulloch County, Georgia.  Jasper and Sallie Riggs were the parents of at least three children:

On December 4, 1932, James Riggs married Huldah Watson.  Huldah was born on December 9, 1909 and is the daughter of K. E. Watson.  James and Huldah Riggs had two children:  -  Nancy Ann Riggs, b. October 13, 1937,  -  James Lester Riggs, Jr., b. February 27, 1939.  James Riggs, Sr. died on April 26, 1970.  On September 7, 1958, Nancy Riggs married W. R.
