THEDE, AUBIL, STEEBY & GARVER FAMILIES  10-107

MARTIN GARVER (63) is the son of Christian Gerber.  According to the family reunion souvenir, Martin was born on March 23, 1791 in Maryland.  The year must be in error and conficts with the 1850 census and many of the birthdates of Martin’s children.  According to the 1850 census of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, Martin Garver was born in 1764 in Maryland.  In 1840, Martin Garver (born 1760 to 1770) was living in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.  The wife of Martin Garver is not known.  It appears that she died prior to 1840 as the oldest female living with Martin in 1840 was born between 1790 and 1800.  According to various 1850 censuses, Martin’s first two children, Elizabeth and John Garver, were born in Maryland and all other children were born in Pennsylvania.  Therefore, Martin Garver married while living in Maryland, had two children and then moved to Pennsylvania around 1800.  Martin Garver was the father of ten children:

  Elizabeth Garver (63.1), b. 1796, Maryland
  John Garver (63.2), b. 1800, Maryland
  George Garver (64), b. 1800, Pennsylvania
  Susan Garver
  Frances Garver (63.5)
  Martin Garver, Jr. (63.6), b. 1804, Pennsylvania
  Sarah Garver (63.7), b. 1808, Pennsylvania
  Anna Garver (63.8), b. 1814, Pennsylvania
  Mary Garver
  Christina Garver

In 1850, Martin Garver, Sr. was living with his son, John, in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.  According to the family reunion souvenir, Martin Garver died on April 19, 1850 and was buried in the Ragersville Cemetery.  Martin Garver was enumerated in the 1850 census on August 15, 1850, therefore the date of death must be in error.  Susan Garver married Jacob Freed.  On November 9, 1848, Mary Garver married Samuel Gault in Tuscarawas County, Ohio and they had one daughter:  -  Anna Gault.  Christina Garver married Christian Wortz.

ELIZABETH GARVER (63.1) is the daughter of Martin Garver.  Elizabeth was born in 1796 in Maryland.  Elizabeth Garver married John Allender (born 1795 in Pennsylvania).  According to the family reunion souvenir, John and Elizabeth Allender had no children.  However, the 1840 census of Tuscarawas County, Ohio lists John Allender (born 1790 to 1800) with what appears to be Elizabeth (born 1790 to 1800) and what appears to be one son:

  Son, b. 1825 to 1830

In 1850, Ezra Penrod (born 1828 in Ohio) was living with John and Elizabeth Allender in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.  Also living with them is what appears to be Elizabeth’s sister’s children, Elizabeth Shafer (born 1833 in Ohio) and Allender Shafer (born 1838 in Ohio).  From 1860 to 1870, John and Elizabeth Allender were living in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.  In 1860, John Stronch (born 1852 in Ohio) was living with them.
