2-26  INTERACTIVE FAMILY HISTORIES

URIAH CASEY (1.2.3) is the son of Moses Casey and Elizabeth (Coe) Casey.  Uriah was born in July of 1830 in McMinn County, Tennessee.  According to Casey Family History, by George W. Casey and Abner Casey, Uriah Casey was brought to Arkansas in 1839 while a small boy and that he grew up in Newton County near Limestone and raised a family.  Around 1848, Uriah Casey married his first wife, Jane Casey (born 1831 in Tennessee).  From 1850 to 1860, Uriah and Jane Casey were living in Newton County, Arkansas.  Uriah Casey enlisted in the Union Army on March 10, 1863 in Company F of the First Arkansas Infantry.  He enlisted as a private and listed his residence as Newton County, Arkansas.  He stated that he was born around 1835 in Marion County, Tennessee.  He is listed as five foot, eleven inches in height, sandy complexion, grey eyes and light hair.  Because the date of birth and place do not match extremely well, there is a possibility that this service record could apply to some other Uriah Casey.  In 1870, Uriah and his first wife, Jane Casey, were living in Johnson County, Arkansas.  Uriah Casey and his first wife, Jane Casey, were the parents of at least ten children:

James Franklin Casey (1.2.3.1), b. June 13, 1849, Newton County, Arkansas
Uriah Casey, b. 1850, Newton County, Arkansas
George Washington Casey (1.2.3.3), b. April, 1852, Newton County, Arkansas
Francis Marion Casey (1.2.3.4), b. 1853, Newton County, Arkansas
Andrew Jackson Casey (1.2.3.5), b. January, 1854, Newton County, Arkansas
Elizabeth Jane Casey (1.2.3.5), b. September 6, 1860, Newton County, Arkansas
Windfield Scott Casey, b. August, 1863, Arkansas
Abraham (Abner) Casey, b. 1865, Arkansas
Christopher Columbus Casey (1.2.3.9), b. September, 1867, Arkansas
  John H. Casey (1.2.3.10), b. September, 1869, Arkansas

Apparently, Uriah’s first wife, Jane Casey, died between 1870 (when she was listed in the 1870 census) and 1872 (when Uriah married a second time to Rachael Woodward).  Uriah Casey married a second time to Rachael M. Woodward (21.2).  Rachael was born in 1837 in Arkansas and is the daughter of Elisha Woodward and Mary W. (Hill) Woodward, both direct ancestors of the authors.  According to Newton County, Arkansas marriage records, Uriah Casey (born 1830) married on July 4, 1872 to Rachel Woodward (born 1840) in Newton County, Arkansas.  At the time of the marriage of Uriah and Rachel Casey, Uriah was listed as 42 years of age and Rachel was listed as 32 years of age.  It appears that Uriah Casey was married three times.  Uriah Casey married a third time to Mary Jane Bohanan in 1876 in Newton County, Arkansas.  This means that Uriah Casey and Rachael Woodward were only married between 1872 and 1876.  It does not appear that any the children of Uriah Casey were born between 1872 and 1876 which suggests that all of Uriah’s children are from his first and third marriages.

According to Newton County, Arkansas marriage records, Uriah Casey (born 1830) married a third time to Mary Jane Bohannon (born 1844) on December 17, 1876 in Newton County, Arkansas.  Mary was born in 1844 and is the daughter of John Bohannon and Elizabeth Bohannon.  In 1880, Uriah Casey and his third wife, Mary J. Casey, were living in Newton County, Arkansas.  Uriah Casey and Mary Jane (Bohannon) Casey were the parents of two children:

  Irby Bohanan Casey (1.2.3.11), b. 1879, Arkansas
Pleasant Thomas Casey, b. November, 1882, Arkansas

According to “Casey Family History” by George W. Casey and Abner Casey, “about 1890, Uriah moved to Whitefish, Montana.  We do not know the name of the girl he married, and the only child whose name we know was:  Christopher Columbus Casey.”  In 1900, there was a U. C. Casey (born July, 1830, Tennessee) living in Flathead County, Montana.  Whitefish is located within Flathead County.  U. C. Casey is listed with what appears to be his third wife, Jane Casey (born July, 1843, Arkansas), and son, Pleasant Casey (born November, 1882, Arkansas).  Also living nearby in the household of B. J. Boorman was C. C. Casey (born September, 1867, Arkansas), Windfield S. Casey (born August, 1863, Arkansas) and P. T. Casey (born November, 1882, Arkansas).  P. T. Casey could be Pleasant Casey listed twice in the census.  Also living nearby was Uriah’s sons, John H. Casey (born September, 1869, Arkansas) and Andrew J. Casey (born January, 1854, Arkansas).

According to Vernon Casey, Uriah Casey died around 1908 in Spokane, Washington.  In 1900, Windfield Scott Casey was listed in the Flathead County, Montana with his brothers, Christopher and Pleasant Casey, as Windfield S. Casey (born August, 1863, Arkansas).  In the 1900 census of Flathead County, Montana, it appears that Pleasant Thomas Casey may have been listed two times.  He is shown with his parents, U. C. Casey and Jane Casey, as Pleasant Casey (born November, 1882, Arkansas).  He is also listed with his brothers, Christopher and Scott Casey, as P. T. Casey (born November, 1882, Arkansas).

Casey (born January, 1854, Arkansas) and his wife, Clara Casey (born March, 1852, Arkansas), living in Flathead County, Montana.  The 1880 census indicates that Andrew and Margaret Casey were the parents of at least son son:

Harmon Casey, b. Aug, 1876, Arkansas

It appears that Margaret Casey died between 1876 and 1900.  In 1900, Andrew Casey and his second wife, Clara Casey (born March, 1852, Arkansas), were living in Flathead County, Montana.  It is certain that this is the same Andrew Casey living in Newton County in 1880 as his son, Harmon Casey, was living in both households.  Andrew and Clara Casey were the parents of one daughter:
