10-68  INTERACTIVE FAMILY HISTORIES

PARENTS OF DOROTHY HOLTZ (21)

Dorothy Holtz is the oldest known Holtz ancestor of the authors.  The 1900 census of Allegan County, Michigan indicate that both parents of Dorothy were born in Germany.  The 1880 census of Allegan County, Michigan shows that Dorothy’s mother, Margaret, was born in 1800 in Germany.  “Thede Family History” states that Dorothy Holtz was born in Mecklinburg, Germany and that she (presumbly with her parents) emigrated to Bruce County, Ontario, Canada around 1854 (when she was eight years of age).  Therefore, Margaret Holtz was the mother of at least one daughter:

  Sophia Marie D. H. Holtz (22), b. February 19, 1846, Mecklinburg, Germany

Dorothy’s father probably died prior 1880 as his wife, Margaret, was living with her daughter in Allegan County, Michigan in 1880.  Margaret Holtz probably died in Michigan between 1880 and 1900 and was probably buried in Allegan County, Michigan.

Dorothy Holtz was born on February 19, 1846 in Mecklinburg, Germany.  She moved to Bruce County, Ontario, Canada in 1854.  On October 9, 1865, Dorothy Holtz married John Thede (2), both direct ancestors of the authors.  “Thede Family History” states that “soon after their marriage, they moved to Caledonia, Michigan.”  This implies that John and Dorothy were married in Canada and moved to Michigan shortly after their marriage.  According to the 1880 and 1900 censuses, John and Dorothy Thede’s oldest child, Emanuel, was born in Michigan in 1868.  For additional information on the descendants of John and Dorothy Thede, see the sketch of John Thede (2).
