LEWIS CASEY (3)

Lewis Casey is the son of John Casey (2).  Lewis Casey’s mother is most likely Polly Martin.  Lewis was born on May 18, 1840 in McMinn County, Tennessee.  In January of 1857, Lewis Casey married Lucretia Woodward (22) in Newton County, Arkansas.  Lucretia was born in 1840 in Arkansas and is the daughter of Elisha Woodward and Mary W. (Hill) Woodward.  For additional information on the descendants of Elisha and Mary W. Woodward, see the sketch of Elisha Woodward (21).  In 1861, Lewis Casey was forced to join a unit of the Confederate Army, Hindmans Conscripts.  He was with the rebels for about six weeks until he had a chance to escape.  On March 1, 1863, Lewis enlisted in the Union Army in Cassville, Missouri.  He served in Company F of the First Regiment of the Arkansas Infantry.  According to his military records when he joined the Union Army, he was 22 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, had gray eyes and brown hair.  Lewis was a Private and served three months as a scout.  He was frequently absent without leave and served time in the guardhouse in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Lewis was honorably discharged at Fort Smith, Arkansas on August 10, 1865.  Lewis and Lucretia Casey were the parents of eleven children:

In 1880, Lewis Casey and his family were living in Madison County, Arkansas.  In 1889, Lewis and his family were in Limestone, Arkansas.  In 1891, they were living in Huntsville, Arkansas.  In 1898, Lewis Caseys pension application for service in the Union Army was approved.  At the time of application, Lewis was living in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas.  In 1900, Lewis and Lucretia Casey were living in Franklin County, Arkansas.  Lucretia (Woodward) Casey died on February 14, 1902 and was buried in the Cecil Cemetery in Franklin County, Arkansas.  In 1910, Lewis Casey was living with his daughter, Ella (Casey) Adams, in Franklin County, Arkansas.  Lewis Casey died in Webb City, Arkansas on April 12, 1917 and was also buried in Cecil, Arkansas.  At the time of his death, Lewis Casey was living in Cecil, Arkansas with his son-in-law and daughter, George and Ella Adams.

ELISHA A. CASEY (3.2) is the son of Lewis Casey and Lucretia (Woodward) Casey.  Lish was born on July 17, 1862 in Arkansas.  In 1881, Lish Casey married Matilda (Ferris) Lane.  Matilda was born in December, 1856 in Missouri.  Matilda Ferris first married Albert Lane and they had one daughter:  Louise Lane.  Louise Lou Lane married John D. Casey (3.5), Lishs brother.  Lish and Matilda Casey were the parents of at least four children:

From 1900 to 1920, Lish and Matilda Casey were living in Franklin County, Arkansas.  Rufus A. Casey died on August 3, 1970 in Gridley, California and was buried there in the Gridley-Biggs Cemetery.  Ward H. Casey died on October 1, 1960.

LILLIE ARZONIA CASEY (3.2.1) is the daughter of Elisha A. Casey and Matilda (Ferris) Casey.  Lillie was born on May 5, 1884 in Arkansas.  Lillie Casey married Monroe Washington Jones in Cecil, Arkansas.  Wash was born on August 12, 1880.  Wash and Lillie Jones were the parents of three children:

Lillie (Casey) Jones died on October 23, 1928 and Monroe Washington Jones died on March 24, 1936 in Ozark, Arkansas.  Ruby Mae Jones died when she was around 14 months of age.

OPAL H. JONES (3.2.1.2) is the daughter of Monroe Washington Jones and Lillie Arzonia (Casey) Jones.  Opal was born on August 18, 1909.  On April 13, 1929, Opal Jones married William Merle Dewey.  William and Opal Dewey were the parents of four children:

  Billy Charles Dewey, b. January 30, 1931, Leroy, Kansas

BETTY JEAN DEWEY (3.2.1.2.3) is the daughter of William Merle Dewey and Opal H. (Jones) Dewey.  Betty was born on October 7, 1932 in Leroy, Kansas.  On April 25, 1953, Betty Jean Dewey married Vernon Charles DeGraff at Merritt Island, Florida.  Charles is from South Holland, Illinois.  Charles and Betty DeGraff are the parents of five children:

NOBLE M. JONES (3.2.1.3) is the daughter of Monroe Washington Jones and Lillie Arzonia (Casey) Jones.  Noble was born on May 13, 1916 in Mulberry, Arkansas.  On October 12, 1940, Noble Jones married Lois Cagle.  Lois was born on April 22, 1920 in Ozark, Arkansas.  Noble and Lois Jones are the parents of three children:

  Shirley Lajune Jones, b. May 7, 1942, Ozark, Arkansas
  Loretta Sue Jones, b. June 24, 1946, Ozark, Arkansas
  Gary Ray Jones, b. September 28, 1947, Ozark, Arkansas

Noble Jones served one term as the Treasurer of Franklin County, Arkansas.  As of 1988, Noble Jones was living in Ozark, Arkansas.  On September 1, 1962, Shirley Jones married Willis Gene Rickard (born March 12, 1936) and they have one daughter:  -  Kristi Elaine Rickard, b. August 16, 1966.  Gene is a counselor for the Blind and Visually Impaired, State of Arkansas in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Shirley is a secretary for the General Manager of the Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative in Ozark, Arkansas.

MARTHA PATRICIA CASEY (3.3) is the daughter of Lewis Casey and Lucretia (Woodward) Casey.  Martha was born on April 10, 1864 in Arkansas.  Patricia Casey married J. Thomas Johnson.  Tom was born in December of 1861 in Arkansas and is the son of William Johnson and Matilda Johnson.  Thomas and Martha Johnson were the parents of five children:

  Melvin C. Johnson (3.3.2), b. November 19, 1886, Arkansas
  William Jasper Johnson (3.3.3), b. February, 1888, Arkansas

In 1900, Thomas and Martha Johnson were living in Madison County, Arkansas.  Martha (Casey) Johnson died on December 14, 1912 and was buried in the Whorton Creek Cemetery in Madison County, Arkanas.  Tom Johnson married a second time to Bell White, daughter of Samuel Hugh White and Elizabeth (Weathers) White.  In 1920, Thomas and Bell Johnson were living in Madison County, Arkansas.  Tom Johnson died on November 5, 1936 and was buried in the Whorton Creek Cemetery.  Lawrence Johnson died between 1900 and 1910.  Thomas Johnson (born 1891) died on November 9, 1899 and was buried in the Whorton Creek Cemetery.

MELVIN C. JOHNSON (3.3.2) is the son of J. Thomas Johnson and Martha Patricia (Casey) Johnson.  Mell was born on November 19, 1886 in Arkansas.  On March 17, 1907, Mell Johnson married Mary Ada Burk.  Ada was born on August 8, 1891 in Arkansas and is the daughter of Joe Burk and Nellie (Gresham) Burk.  Mell and Ada Johnson were the parents of two sons:

  Tommie John Johnson, b. December 21, 1915, Weathers, Arkansas

From 1910 to 1920, Mell and Ada Johnson were living in Madison County, Arkansas.  Mell Johnson died on January 9, 1960 and Ada (Burk) Johnson died on December 14, 1973.  Both were buried in the Burk Cemetery in Weathers, Arkansas.  Tommie Johnson never married.  Tommie Johnson was the Postmaster in Weathers, Arkansas.  Tommie Johnson died on December 7, 1988 and was buried in the Burk Cemetery.

JOHNSON (3.3.2.1) is the son of Melvin Johnson and Ada (Burk) Johnson.  Joe was born on June 16, 1908 in Weathers, Arkansas.  On June 27, 1931, Joe Johnson married Irma Doris Ammons.  Irma was born on July 31, 1911 and is the daughter of John Ammons and Martha (Ricth) Ammons.  Joe and Irma Johnson had two daughters:

WILLIAM JASPER JOHNSON (3.3.3) is the son of J. Thomas Johnson and Martha Patricia (Casey) Johnson.  Jap was born in February of 1888 in Arkansas.  In 1916, Jap Johnson married Sadie L. Burk.  Sadie was born on November 25, 1900 in Arkansas and is the daughter of Joseph L. Burk and Nellie A. (Gresham) Burk.  Jap and Sadie Johnson were the parents of two children:

  Donna Audie Johnson, b. September 26, 1917, Weathers, Arkansas

In 1920, William and Sadie Johnson were living in Madison County, Arkansas.  Jasper Johnson died on September 3, 1958 and was buried in the Burk Cemetery at Weathers, Arkansas.  Audie Johnson married Robert Inlow and they had one daughter:  -  Patsy Inlow, b. September 26, 1942.  Audie (Johnson) Inlow died on September 12, 1943.  Patsy Inlow married and later divorced.  Patsy has no children and lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Denny Johnson married Martha Lee Hodge and they had one daughter:  -  Willia May Johnson (died at six weeks of age).  Denny Johnson and his wife were later divorced.  Denny Johnson died on January 1, 1975 and was buried in the Burk Cemetery at Weathers, Arkansas.

CHARLES L. JOHNSON (3.3.5) is the son of J. Thomas Johnson and Martha Patricia (Casey) Johnson.  Charlie was born on January 9, 1902 in Arkansas.  On September 30, 1928, Charlie Johnson married Flora Fitch.  Flora was born on May 4, 1908 and is the daughter of Mike Fitch and Zazillia Mae (Huber) Fitch.  Charlie and Flora Johnson were the parents of two children:

  Verma Lee Johnson, b. April 1, 1933, Weathers, Arkansas
  Wayne Johnson, b. March 2, 1940, Whorton, Arkansas

Verma Johnson married Virgil Inman and they have two children:  -  Dianne Inman, b. April 6, 1956,  -  Dary Inman, b. January 6, 1972.  Dianne Inman married Earl Lyman and they have one son:  -  David Earl Lyman, b. February 1, 1982.  Earl and Dianne Lyman live in Springdale, Arkansas.  Wayne Johnson married and later was divorced, having no children.  Wayne currently works for the University of Arkansas.

CASEY (3.4) is the son of Lewis Casey and Lucretia (Woodward) Casey.  Cloud was born on December 8, 1866 in Madison County, Arkansas.  On Janaury 2, 1889, Cloud Casey married Jo Ella Clark in Franklin County, Arkansas.  Jo Ella was born on April 16, 1871 in Cecil, Arkansas and is the daughter of Lewis Clark.  Cloud and Jo Ella Casey were the parents of five children:

Casey died on January 12, 1942 in White Rock, Arkansas and Jo Ella (Clark) Casey died on September 12, 1957 in White Rock, Arkansas.  Both were buried in the White Rock Cemetery in White Rock, Arkansas.  Lonnie Casey died on June 18, 1906.  Ollie Casey died on July 14, 1985.  Paul Casey died on February 23, 1949.  Webb Casey died on August 20, 1965.

ULYSSES GRANT CASEY (3.4.2) is the son of Cloud C. Casey and Jo Ella (Clark) Casey.  Grant was born on December 15, 1892 in Madison County, Arkansas.  On August 24, 1913, Grant Casey married Faye Taff.  Faye was born on May 10, 1896 in Arkansas and is the daughter of John Taff and Mattie Taff.  Grant and Faye Casey were the parents of ten children:

Pete Casey married Jean Yarber and they live in Lamar, Arkansas.  Pete was disabled in action during World War II.  Sue Casey married James Miller and they have two children:  -  David Miller,  -  Melinda Miller.  James is now disabled with arthritis and is retired from ranching.  James and Sue Miller live at White Rock, Arkansas.  Bud Casey married Margie Byersdorfer.  Bud is a truck driver and they live in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Geraldine Casey married Joe Kincy and they have three children:  -  Deborah Kincy,  -  Kim Kincy,  -  Tammy Kincy.  Joe Kincy is a retired civil servant and they live at Dyer, Arkansas.  June Casey married Jack McGhee and they have three children:  -  Kenny McGhee,  -  Larry McGhee,  -  Mark McGhee.  Jack McGhee is a rancher and welder and they live at Ozark, Arkansas.  J. CASEY (3.5) is the son of Lewis Casey and Lucretia (Woodward) Casey.  John was born on May 5, 1869 in Madison County, Arkansas.  On January 21, 1886, John Casey married Louise Lula Lane.  Lula was born on September 13, 1871 in Arkansas and is the daughter of Albert Lane who was a Colonel in the Civil War.  John Casey owned and operated a large department store in Spokane, Washington.  John and Lula Casey were the parents of ten children:

In 1900, Lula (Lane) Casey and her children were living alone in Flathead County, Montana.  It is also interesting to note that living in the household of Julia M. Hand, there was a John D. Casey (born May, 1868, Arkansas) that could be the same person as John D. Casey (born May 5, 1869, Arkansas).  In 1920. John and Lula Casey were living in Stevens County, Washington.  John D. Casey died on January 17, 1939 in Spokane, Washington and Lula (Lane) Casey died on January 15, 1960 in Spokane, Washington.  Myrtle Casey married a Mr. Schmidt.  Myrtle married a second time to a Mr. Thompson.  Myrtle has three children.  As of 1982, Myrtle (Casey) Thompson was living in Coeur DAlene, Idaho.  Gertie Casey died as an infant on October 9, 1889.

Vesta Casey married a Mr. Thurber and they have one son:  -  John Thurber.  Vesta married a second time to a Mr. Johnson.  Vesta has two other children.  Vesta (Casey) Johnson died in 1976.  Grace M. Casey died as a small child on October 15, 1895.  Connie Casey married Hilford R. Wallace.  Hilford Wallace was a general in the United States Air Force.  Connie (Casey) Wallace died on February 6, 1971.  John H. Casey married Mildred Nance and they had two sons:  -  John Casey,  -  Terrance Casey.  John and Terrance Casey live in Spokane, Washington.  John H. Casey died on December 13, 1978.  On January 31, 1926, Gladys Casey married Donald Sutherland.  Gladys had two children that died very young.  Gladys (Casey) Sutherland died on October 10, 1963.

OLIVE BERNICE THOMASON (3.8.5.4) is the daughter of Newton Zelmer Thomason and Susan Tennessee (Casey) Thomason.  Olive was born on October 5, 1934 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  On August 26, 1950, Olive Thomason married Max Lavern Horton in Ceres, California.  Max was born on May 23, 1929 in Hollis, Oklahoma and is the son of David Horton and Lillie (Smith) Horton.  Max and Olive Horton are the parents of three children:

ROBERT HORACE CASEY (3.9) is the son of Lewis Casey and Lucretia (Woodward) Casey.  Horace was born on March 28, 1876 in Madison County, Arkansas.  In 1894, Horace Casey married Sina Blyth (born January, 1879 in Arkansas).  Horace and Sina Casey were the parents of at least nine children:

NANCY ELLEN CASEY (3.10) is the daughter of Lewis Casey and Lucretia (Woodward) Casey.  Ella was born on January 22, 1879 in Madison County, Arkansas.  In 1901, Ella Casey married George Louis Adams (born 1878 in Arkansas).  Louis and Ella Adams were the parents of four children:

KATHLEEN ADAMS (3.10.4) is the daughter of George Louis Adams and Nancy Ellen (Casey) Adams.  Kathleen was born in 1919 in Franklin County, Arkansas.  Kathleen Adams married a Mr. Franklin and they are the parents of seven children:

MAUDE CASEY (3.11) is the daughter of Lewis Casey and Lucretia (Woodward) Casey.  Maude was born on June 11, 1882 in Arkansas.  According to Lewis Caseys Pension Papers, Maude Casey married a Mr. Curtis.  In 1900, Mauda Curtis (born June, 1883) was living with Louis and Lucretia Casey in Franklin County, Arkansas.  According to Louis B. Casey, Maude Casey married Levi Bumpers.
