CASEY FAMILY HISTORY  2-55

ELLISON CASEY (1.3) is probably the son of Ambler Casey and Polly (Ellison) Casey.  Ellison was born in 1816 in Roane County, Tennessee.  Ellison Casey married a woman named Elvira (born 1817 in Tennessee).  Ellison Casey appears on the delinquent poll tax lists in 1840, 1842 and 1843 of McMinn County, Tennessee.  In 1850, Ellison and Elvira Casey were living in Madison County, Arkansas.  In 1860, they were living in Johnson County, Arkansas.  Ellison and Elvira Casey were the parents of at least seven children:

  Miles Casey, b. 1836, Tennessee
  Levi Casey (1.3.2), b. 1837, Tennessee
  Robert Casey (1.3.3), b. 1838, Tennessee
  Pryor Casey, b. 1845, Arkansas
  Hynson Casey, b. 1848, Arkansas
  Nancy Casey, b. 1849, Arkansas
  Louisa Casey, b. 1852, Arkansas

LEVI CASEY (1.3.2) is probably the son of Ellison Casey and Elvira Casey.  Levi was born in 1837 in Tennessee.  There is also evidence that Levi might be the son of Ambler Casey (1) or Moses Casey (1.2) instead of the son of Ellison Casey (1.3).  Both Ambler and Moses are believed to had sons born in the late 1830s and there is other evidence that imply that Levi may not be the son of Ellison Casey.  First, the 1850 census of Madison Casey listed Levi as the last child living in the household of Ellison Casey, even though he was not the youngest in the household.  Having an older child listed at the end of the household usually indicated one of two possibilities:  1)  the census taker missed a child when recording children and then added the missing child at the end of the household;  2)  the child was actually a relative or orphan of another family - hence younger brother (son of Ambler Casey) or nephew (son of Moses Casey).  Second, the 1860 census of Johnson County, Arkansas lists another Levi Casey (born 1850 in Arkansas) living with Ellison Casey when Levi Casey (1.3.2) was living in Fulton County, Arkansas with his wife, Sarah Casey.  Levi Casey (1.3.2) is almost certainly related to Ambler Casey in some fashion and will continue to be listed as a son of Ellison Casey until more evidence is discovered to prove otherwise.  Levi Casey married Sarah Laws (born 1844 in Arkansas).  From 1860 to 1870, Levi and Sarah Casey were living in Fulton County, Arkansas.  Levi and Sarah Casey were the parents of six children:

Timothy Robert Casey (1.3.2.1), b. December, 1859, Arkansas
  James Don Casey (1.3.2.2), b. 1860, Arkansas
Elizabeth Jane Casey (1.3.2.3), b. June, 1861, Fulton County, Arkansas
Amanda Casey (1.3.2.4), b. 1868, Fulton County, Arkansas
  Renda Casey, b. 1871, Arkansas
  Nancy Emeline Casey (1.3.2.6), b. March 10, 1875, Arkansas

Levi Casey was buried in the Blue Springs Cemetery in Ozark County, Missouri.  In 1880, many of the children of Levi and Sarah Casey were living with William and Eva McKinney in Ozark County, Missouri.  Listed in their household was:  Eliza J. Casey listed as ward (born 1867, Arkansas), Manda Casey listed as ward (born 1869, Arkansas), Rinda Casey listed as ward (born 1871, Arkansas), Timothy Casey listed as boarder (born 1858, Arkansas) and James P. Casey listed as boarder (born 1861, Arkansas).  Renda Casey married a Mr. Hudson.

ROBERT CASEY (1.3.3) is the son of Ellison Casey and Elvira Casey.  Robert was born in 1838 in Tennessee.  In the late 1850s, Robert Casey married a woman named Polly (born 1842 in Arkansas).  In the 1860 Census of Johnson County, Arkansas, Robert and Polly Casey were the parents of one child:

  Jane Casey, b. 1859, Arkansas

In 1870, there is a Mary Casey (born 1835 in Arkansas) living with two children, Polly Casey (born 1854, Arkansas) and Jessey Casey (born 1858, Arkansas), in Madsion County, Arkansas.  This may be the widow of Robert Casey, son of Ellison Casey.  Again in 1880, Mary Casey (born 1835, Tennesse) was living with her son, Jesse Casey (born 1859, Arkansas) in Madison County, Arkansas.  In 1880, Alfred Bowen (born 1860 in Arkansas) is listed as a cousin.  This may imply some relationship with the Abner Casey (8.3) and Elizabeth (Bowen) Casey line.

According to Casey History written by George W. Casey and Abner Casey, Robert Casey also had three additional children:  -  Lewis Casey,  -  Robert Casey,  -  Ann Casey.  Although the father of Lewis Casey was stated by his descendants to be Robert Casey, Robert can not be the son of Ellison Casey as stated in the Casey History.  In the 1880 census of Searcy County, Arkansas, there is a Louis R. Casey listed as 31 years of age.  He is shown with the four oldest children as stated in Casey History.  According to the 1850 Census of Madison County, Arkansas and the 1860 Census of Johnson County, Arkansas, Robert Casey (son of Ellison Casey) was only ten or eleven when Louis R. Casey was born.  Therefore, Louis R. (Lewis) Casey is not the grandson of Ellison Casey.  However, the 1850 Census of Fulton County, Arkansas shows a Robert Casey with a son Lewis who is shown to be one year old.  This Robert Casey is the father of Louis R. (Lewis) Casey and his father is unknown at this time.
