BRYAN FAMILY HISTORY   8-409

REVERE’S OF MIDDLESEX COUNTY, VIRGINIA

William J. Revere (22) is the oldest known Revere ancestor of the authors.  William Revere had a daughter, Caledonia Ann Revere, who is the author’s youngest direct ancestor born with the surname of Revere.  Caledonia Ann Revere married Finus Ewing Bryan (4), both direct ancestors of the authors.  It is known that William was born in 1818 in Virginia.  From 1840 to 1870, William and his wife, Mary Revere, were living in Maury County, Tennessee.  From 1860 and 1870, there was a J. A. “Revier” also living in Maury County, Tennessee.  It is very probable that J. A. Revere is William Revere’s brother.  It is also known that J. A. Revere was born in 1822 in Virginia.  Because both Revere’s were born in Virginia, it was decided to research early Revere families in Virginia.

From 1850 to 1860, over half of the Revere families in Virginia lived in Middlesex County, Virginia with others living in Spotsylvania County, King and Queen County, Lancaster County and Richmond County, Virginia.  All of these counties are nearby to Middlesex County, Virginia.  Obviously, researching these Revere families might uncover information on William and J. A. Revere’s ancestry.  The vast majority of Revere individuals that remained in Virginia are descendants of Peter and Hannah Revere:

   Peter Revere (20.1)

According to the “Revere Family” manuscript located in the Mary Ball Memorial Library, Peter Revere (20.1) is the son of John Revere and Joanna Revere.  This line, John and Joanna Revere, is documented only by the manuscript but obviously could be related to the author’s William Jackson Revere:
