JANNET BRYAN (1.5) is the daughter of John Bryan, Sr. and Sarah Bryan.  Because Jannet married in 1780, it very likely that Jannet Bryan was born in the late 1750’s.  On September 2, 1780, “Jannet Bryan (a single woman)” married Joseph Orton and Samuel Orton signed the marriage bond.  In the 1776 will of James Orton, there was a Joseph Orton listed as the son of James Orton.  John Bryan witnessed the will.  It is believed that this James Orton is the father of Joseph Orton who married Jannet Bryan.

It is believed that Joseph Orton is the son of James Orton (born 1725) and Jane (Bryan) Orton (born 1727).  Joseph Orton’s brother, James Orton (born 1750), was the grandfather of William Reed Orton who married Rebecca Huey (1.8.6).  William Reed Orton was born in 1802 and is the son of James Orton (born 1773) and Elizabeth (Renshaw) Orton (born 1776).  William is the grandson of James Orton (born 1750) and Elizabeth (Taylor) Orton (born 1754).  Joseph Orton’s sister, Rebecca Orton, married John Bryan, Jr. (1.3).  Joseph Orton’s brother, John Orton, married Jane Bryan (1.4).

In 1797, “Jennet Ortan” was listed in her father’s will and “son-in-law Joseph Ortan” was named executor.  In 1800, Joseph Orton was listed in the census of Rowan County, North Carolina.  On November 5, 1800, Letters of Administration were issued to “Joseph Orton and William Law.”  “The will of Joseph Orten was made while weak in body on January 26, 1807.”  This will states that his wife, Janet, should have “the house wherein I now dwell and land two hundred and 20 acres.”  This will shows that Joseph and Jannet Orten were the parents of the six children:

   Joseph Orten, Jr.
   Rachel Orten (1.5.2), b. ca. 1781
John Orten (1.5.3), b. ca. 1784, North Carolina
   James Orten

   Jincey Robertson Orten

On May 2, 1808, the administration on the estate of Jannet Orton is granted to James Orten and Joseph Campbell who qualified and gave bond of 200 pounds with Henry Hughey and Francis Neely.  Joseph Campbell is appointed guardian of Jane, orphan of Joseph Orten and gave bond of 500 pounds with James Orten and Francis Neely.  On April 19, 1809, Jincey Robertson Orten married John Wilson.  The marriage bond was signed by James Orten.
