JOSEPH DANIEL BROOKS (2.3.2) is the son of Isham Brooks and Lezina (Daniel) Brooks.  Joseph was born on May 21, 1814 in Putnam County, Georgia.  On September 28, 1841, Joseph Brooks married Teresa Maria (Sikes) Robertson.  Teresa was born on October 12, 1811 and is the daughter of John Sikes and Elizabeth Sikes.  Teresa first married Henry Robertson around 1826 and had three children by her first marriage:  John Henry Robertson (born March 7, 1829), Julia Ann Robertson (born November 19, 1830) and Sarah Elizabeth Robertson (born November 11, 1835).  Sarah Elizabeth Robertson later married her step-father’s brother, Robert Brooks (2.3.5).  In 1850 and 1860, Joseph was listed in the censuses as a physician and he and his wife were living in Talbot County, Georgia.  Joseph and Teresa Brooks were the parents of at least five children:

   Joseph Wiley Brooks (2.3.2.3), b. April 23, 1847, Georgia

Joseph and Teresa Brooks had two sons named James Henry Brooks.  The first was born on September 27, 1844 and died on May 25, 1848.  On January 12, 1850, Joseph and Teresa named another son by the same name.  Joseph Daniel Brooks died on December 25, 1868 and was buried in the Valley Cemetery in Talbot County, Georgia.  Teresa (Sikes) Brooks died on May 5, 1889 in Milledgeville, Georgia and was also buried in the Valley Cemetery in Talbot County, Georgia.

ROBERT AUGUSTUS BROOKS (2.3.2.1) is the son of Joseph Daniel Brooks and Teresa Maria (Sikes) Brooks.  Robert was born on September 26, 1842 in Georgia.  Robert Brooks was a student at Emory College when the Civil War began.  He volunteered for service in the Confederate Army.  Robert Augustus Brooks died of typhoid in Farmville, Virginia on December 23, 1862.  At that time, Robert was a private in the Georgia Infantry, Company A of the Fourth Regiment.  Robert Brooks was buried in the Valley Cemetery in Talbot County, Georgia.

JOSEPH WILEY BROOKS (2.3.2.3) is the son of Joseph Daniel Brooks and Teresa Maria (Sikes) Brooks.  Joseph was born on April 23, 1847 in Georgia.  Joseph was a student at the Marietta Military Academy.  Joseph was commissioned a Lieutenant and sent to Andersonville to help guard Federal prisoners.  Tradition has it that he died there, but the record in the family Bible records indicate that he died on September 5, 1866.  Joseph was buried in the Valley Cemetery in Talbot County, Georgia.

JAMES HENRY BROOKS (2.3.2.4) is the son of Joseph Daniel Brooks and Teresa Maria (Sikes) Brooks.  James was born on January 12, 1850 in Georgia.  On January 7, 1873, James Brooks married Anna M. Moore.  Anna was born on September 15, 1854 and was the daughter of L. M. Moore and M. G. Moore.  James and Anna Brooks were the parents of six children:

   Rosa Clifford Brooks, b. September 5, 1876, Georgia
   Ethel Brooks, b. 1879, Georgia
   Robert Preston Brooks (2.3.2.4.3), b. July 23, 1881
   Carlton Parks Brooks (2.3.2.4.4), b. 1883
   Henry Candler Brooks (2.3.2.4.5), b. December 20, 1885

In 1880, James and Anna Brooks were living in Milledgeville in Baldwin County, Georgia. James Brooks was a merchant in Milledgeville, Georgia.  James and Anna Brooks later lived in Upson County, Georgia.  James was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was licensed to preach in 1882.  For some time he was a member of the North Georgia Conference and in December of 1884 was transferred to the Colorado Conference.  In his brief time in Colorado, James had a rather successful career.  He became editor of the Colorado Methodist and President of a so-called seminary located in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  Writing from Las Vegas on April 8, 1885, he gave some details about the seminary.  It had a two-story brick building and there were three teachers, himself and two women, and ninety-three student from many states.  James Henry Brooks died in Colorado on April 9, 1886.  After James’ death, Anna Brooks returned to Milledgeville with her four small children and remained there until her death in 1907.  Both James and Anna Brooks were buried in the Memory Hill Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia.  Rosa Clifford Brooks died in infancy.  Another daughter was born in the late 1870’s and also died in infancy.

ROLAND EDGAR BROOKS (2.3.2.4.1) is the son of James Henry Brooks and Anna M. (Moore) Brooks.  Roland was born on February 14, 1874 in Milledgeville, Georgia.  Roland attended the Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, but withdrew from there to enter Emory College.  In 1893, Roland E. Brooks received an A. B. degree from Emory College.  After graduation, he moved to Fort Worth, Texas as a professor of Latin and Greek in the Polytechnic College, with which he was connected for three years.  On December 31, 1896, Roland E. Brooks married Wessie Adkisson (born in Texas) and they were the parents of one son:

   Candler Adkisson Brooks (2.3.2.4.1.1), b. September 28, 1896, Fort Worth, Texas

Wessie (Adkisson) Brooks died in Georgia and was buried in Montezuma, Georgia.  Roland E. Brooks married a second time to Jane Lewis of Montezuma, Georgia and they were the parents of one son:

   Charles Lewis Brooks (2.3.2.4.1.2)

Roland E. Brooks was principal of the Eufaula district school at Clayton, Alabama, for four years and for a year was a professor of mathematics at Tuskegee, Alabama.  He then returned to Georgia and served successively at Montezuma, Blakely and Dublin.  In 1914, he assumed the duties of superintendent of the city schools of Albany.  He has taken postgraduate courses at the State Universities of Georgia, Tennessee and Colorado, also at the University of Chicago.  Roland E. Brooks died in 1936 in Albany, Georgia.

CANDLER ADKISSON BROOKS (2.3.2.4.1.1) is the son of Roland Edgar Brooks and Wessie (Adkisson) Brooks.  Candler was born on September 28, 1896 in Fort Worth, Texas.  On December 31, 1919, Candler Brooks married Cornelia Agnes Bethune.  Cornelia was born on September 23, 1898 and was the daughter of Benjamin Thomas Bethune and Josephine (Moore) Bethune.  Candler and Cornelia Brooks were the parents of at least two sons:

   Candler Adkisson Brooks, Jr. (2.3.2.4.1.1.1), b. January 18, 1920, Georgia
   Roland Edgar Brooks, b. 1920’s

Candler Brooks, Sr. graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology, but later abandoned engineering and became an officer in a bank in Naples, Florida.  Candler Brooks died in 1974 and was buried in Naples, Florida.  Roland E. Brooks and his wife, Sherry, are the parents of three children:  -  Charles Brooks (single in the Army),  -  Lyn Brooks (married and lives in Tampa, Florida),  -  Jay Candler Brooks (single in the Army).  Roland and Sherry Brooks live in Tampa, Florida.

CANDLER ADKISSON BROOKS, JR. (2.3.2.4.1.1.1) is the son of Candler Adkisson Brooks and Cornelia (Bethune) Brooks.  Candler was born on January 18, 1920’s in Milledgeville, Georgia.  In 1941, Candler married Mary Jacquelyn Rivers (born in Bradenton, Florida) and they are the parents of one son:

Candler and Jacquie Brooks live in Hapeville, Georgia.  Candler Brooks, III married Dayle Rebecca Doyle and they are the parents of two children:  -  Andrew Candler Brooks, b. April 13, 1971,  -  Catherine Arwin Brooks, b. November 8, 1973.  Candler and Dayle Brooks live in Douglasville, Georgia.

CHARLES LEWIS BROOKS (2.3.2.4.1.2) is the son of Roland Edgar Brooks and Jane (Lewis) Brooks.  Charles attended the Phillips-Exeter Academy and then Washington and Lee where he graduated.  Charles Brooks was later employed by the Bibb Manufacturing Company.  Charles and his wife, Carolyn Brooks, are the parents of one daughter:

Charles Lewis Brooks died in 1974.  Elizabeth Brooks married Bill Boswell and they had two children.  Elizabeth (Brooks) Boswell died in 1971.  Bill who later married again lives with their two children in Macon, Georgia.

ROBERT PRESTON BROOKS (2.3.2.4.3) is the son of James Henry Brooks and Anna (Moore) Brooks.  Robert was born on July 23, 1881 in Milledgeville, Georgia.  Robert Brooks married Josephine Reid and they had three daughters:

   Eugenia Preston Brooks (2.3.2.4.3.2), b. October 26, 1916
   Anne Moore Brooks (2.3.2.4.3.3), b. July 12, 1919

Robert Preston Brooks graduated from the Georgia Military College at Milledgeville, Georgia in 1899.  Robert immediately got a job in Cartersville as a secretary to John W. Akin (President of the Iron Belt Railroad and Mining Company, the Cherokee Ochre and Barites Company and the Southern Plaster Company).  Robert did all of his letter writing and kept books of the several corporations that John Akin managed, all for a salary of forty dollars per month.  After six months in Cartersville, Robert worked for two years in Valdosta for the Valdosta Foundry and Machine Company.  Later, Robert Preston Brooks received a doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin.  Robert was a Rhodes Scholar.  In 1910, Robert and Josephine Brooks were living in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia.  Robert Preston Brooks was the dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Georgia from 1920 to 1945.  The Business Administration Building was renamed “Robert Preston Brooks Hall.”  In 1957, he was the author of the book “Under Seven Flags.”  Robert Preston Brooks died in Athens, Georgia on October 28, 1961 and was buried in the Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens.  At the time of his death, he was a Dean Emeritus of the University of Georgia.  Josephine (Reid) Brooks died in 1963.

JOSEPHINE REID BROOKS (2.3.2.4.3.1) is the daughter of Robert Preston Brooks and Josephine (Reid) Brooks.  Josephine was born on April 18, 1909 in Athens, Georgia.  Josephine graduated from the University of Georgia in 1930 and later received a master’s degree (she is a member of Phi Beta Kappa).  Josephine Brooks married Allen Nicholls Smith, a 1926 graduate of the University of Georgia.  Allen and Josephine Smith were the parents of three daughters:

   Anne Smith, b. 1941
   Sally Smith, b. 1946

Allen Smith died and Josephine later married a second time to John Scott.  John and Josephine Scott live in Montgomery, Alabama.  Josephine Smith married Mortimer Ames and they have three children:  -  Mort Ames,  -  Josephine Ames,  -  Brooks Ames.  Josephine and Mortimer Ames live in Selma, Alabama.  Anne Smith married Archibald Reeves and they have three sons:  -  Archy Reeves,  -  Allan Reeves,  -  name unknown.  Archibald and Anne Reeves live in Selma, Alabama.  Sally Smith married David Carrington and they have three sons.  David and Sally Carrington live in Mobile, Alabama.

EUGENIA PRESTON BROOKS (2.3.2.4.3.2) is the daughter of Robert Preston Brooks and Josephine (Reid) Brooks.  Gene was born on October 26, 1916 in Athens, Georgia.  In 1934, Gene Brooks married J. Milton Richardson.  Milton was born in 1913 in Sylvester, Georgia and is a 1934 graduate of the University of Georgia.  Gene graduated from the University of Georgia in 1936 and received a Master’s of Art in 1939.  She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  Milton and Gene Richardson are the parents of at least four children:

Milton Richardson died in Houston, Texas on March 24, 1980 and was buried in the Memory Hill Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia.  Gene (Brooks) Richardson still lives in Houston, Texas.  James Richardson, Jr. and his wife, Nell Richardson, are the parents of two sons and one daughter:  -  Jim Richardson,  - Joan Richardson,  -  name unknown.  James and Nell Richardson live in Colora, Maryland.  Eugenia Brooks Richardson married James W. Nash and they have three children:  -  Rebecca Nash,  -  Sally Nash,  -  Jake Nash.  James and Eugenia Nash live in Houston, Texas.  Joan Richardson married Jim R. Doty and they have one daughter:  -  Kate Doty.  Jim and Joan Doty live in Houston, Texas.  Preston Brooks Richardson is single and lives in Houston, Texas.

ANNE MOORE BROOKS (2.3.2.4.3.3) is the daughter of Robert Preston Brooks and Josephine (Reid) Brooks.  Anne Brooks was born on July 12, 1919 in Athens, Georgia.  In 1940, Anne graduated from the University of Georgia.  Anne Brooks married Benjamin Joseph Dasher, Jr. and they are the parents of six children:

CARLTON PARKS BROOKS (2.3.2.4.4) is the son of James Henry Brooks and Anna (Moore) Brooks.  Carlton was born in 1883 in Clinton, Georgia.  Around 1901, Carlton moved to Valdosta, Georgia.  Carlton Brooks married Ida Mae Fender and worked all of his life for the Fender Lumber Company in Valdosta, Georgia.  Carlton and Ida Mae Brooks were the parents of three children:

CARLTON PARKS BROOKS, JR. (2.3.2.4.4.3) is the son of Carlton Parks Brooks and Ida Mae (Fender) Brooks.  Carlton was born on October 28, 1920.  Carlton Brooks, Jr. married Cynthia Scribner of Pittsfield, Massachusetts and they are the parents of three children:

Carlton Brooks, Jr. graduated from Emory College in 1943.  Carlton and Cynthia Brooks live in Roanoke, Virginia.  Carlton Brooks, III and his first wife, Karen Brooks, had one daughter:  -  Heather Brooks, b. 1972.  Carlton later married Constance Ober and they have one daughter:  -  Wister Ann Brooks, b. May, 1981.  Carlton and Constance Brooks live in Richmond, Virginia.  Randall Brooks and his wife, Linda Brooks, have one daughter:  -  Jennifer Brooks, b. 1978.  Randall and Linda Brooks live in Roanoke, Virginia.  Robert Brooks married Debbie Cherry and they currently have no children.  Robert is in United States Air Force and lives in Roanoke, Virginia.

HENRY CANDLER BROOKS (2.3.2.4.5) is the son of James Henry Brooks and Anna (Moore) Brooks.  Henry was born on December 20, 1885 in Le Veata, Colorado where his father was serving as minister on the circuit.  Henry Brooks graduated from the Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Georgia and was top officer in the military department.  Henry Candler Brooks married Clara Hall.  Clara was born on September 22, 1885 in Americus, Georgia and was the daughter of Joel T. Hall and Clarissa A. (Kemp) Hall.  Henry and Clara Brooks were the parents of two sons:

   Henry Candler Brooks, Jr., b. June 12, 1915
   James Hall Brooks (2.3.2.4.5.2), b. July 13, 1916

Henry Candler Brooks, Sr. died on April 3, 1920.  After Henry’s death, Clara moved to New York where she operated a kindergarten.  Henry Candler Brooks, Jr. graduated from Harvard and is an attorney.

JAMES HALL BROOKS (2.3.2.4.5.2) is the son of Henry Candler Brooks and Clara (Hall) Brooks.  James was born on July 13, 1916 in Jacksonville, Florida.  James Brooks is a graduate of Harvard University.  On October 2, 1948, James Hall Brooks married Cornelia McMurray in New Caanan, Connecticut.  Cornelia was born on October 24, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa and is the daughter of Joseph McMurray of Des Moines, Iowa and Emily Prouty (McMurray) Sedgewick of New Caanan, Connecticut.  James Hall Brooks is a retired banker from New York City and now lives in Earlysville, Virginia.

WILLIAM SIDNEY BROOKS (2.3.2.5) is the son of Joseph Daniel Brooks and Teresa Maria (Sikes) Brooks.  William was born on June 11, 1852 in Talbot County, Georgia.  On November 26, 1873, William Brooks married Mattie C. Mahone in Talbot County, Georgia.  Mattie was born on March 7, 1855 in Talbot County, Georgia and is the daughter of Peter F. Mahone and Elizabeth J. (Waller) Mahone.  William and Mattie Brooks were the parents of seven children:

In 1880, William and Mattie Brooks were living in Henry County, Georgia.  Katie Estelle Brooks married L. Boyd McCrory on June 9, 1897.  Boyd and Katie McCrory are the parents of two children:  -  Mildred McCrory,  -  W. Brooks McCrory who lives in Atlanta.  Peter Mahone Brooks died in Jacksonville, Florida.  On July 6, 1891, James Henry Brooks drowned while on a fishing trip near Milledgeville, Georgia.  Joseph Augustus Brooks died of dyptheria in Hampton, Georgia on December 20, 1882 and was buried in Bellvue, Georgia.  Robert Pierce Brooks married Undean Stanfield and they had one daughter:  -  Mildred Brooks who lives in Jacksonville, Florida.  Willie Felder Brooks died in Talbotton, Georgia on September 15, 1888.  Mattie (Mahone) Brooks died on February 11, 1888.  On June 12, 1889, William Brooks married a second time to Mary Virginia Moore.  Mary was born on April 18, 1861 and is the daughter of Jerimiah N. Moore and Henrietta (Micklejohn) Moore.  William and Mary Brooks were the parents of four children:

Mattie Henrietta Brooks died on July 14, 1905 and was buried in the Memory Hill Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia.  On June 6, 1914, Nettie A. Brooks married T. F. Johnson.  T. F. and Nettie Johnson had no children and lived in Tampa, Florida.  Mary Elizabeth Brooks is a 1925 graduate of Georgia State College for Women.  Mary Brooks died on December 6, 1977 and was buried in the Memory Hill Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia.  William Sidney Brooks, Sr. died on November 29, 1922 and Mary (Moore) Brooks died on January 17, 1943.  Both were buried in Milledgevillle, Georgia.

MARVIN K. BROOKS (2.3.2.5.5) is the son of William Sidney Brooks and Mattie C. (Mahone) Brooks.  Marvin was born on July 21, 1884.  In February of 1905, Marvin K. Brooks married Mary E. Clark (born 1882 in Kansas).  Marvin and Mary Brooks were the parents of two children:

   Francis E. Brooks, b. 1910

Marvin Brooks died in Thomasville, Georgia on July 10, 1915.

TOMLINSON JOHNSON BROOKS (2.3.2.5.11.2) is the son of William Sidney Brooks, Jr. and Eunice (Palmer) Brooks.  Tom was born on September 21, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia.  Tom Brooks married Mary Anna Jackson.  Mary is the daughter of Eugene Jordan Jackson and Clara Ruth (Kuettner) Jackson.  Tom and Mary Brooks are the parents of three children:
